Edward C Brown, a prominent African American real estate investor, bought and remodeled the Broad Street Lombard Street corner in Philadelphia. Over 1914 a team under contractor Robinson rebuilt an 18 by 94 foot site into a modern office suite and storefront, costing about ten thousand dollars, showcasing colored artisans at work.

House votes to bar mixed marriages in District

Sudden Death Of Dr J H Boothe At Douglass Hospital
Dr J Henry Boothe longtime Philadelphia physician died at Frederick Douglass Memorial Hospital on Sunday January 3rd from diabetes complications. A Brooklyn native, he rose from oyster work to Medico-Chirurgical College graduate 1898 and served on Douglass Hospital medical staff. He is survived by his widow and one son. Funeral was held January 6 at First African Baptist Church and body shipped south for interment alongside a brother.
