Sylvester Crockett a colored prisoner at the Tombs attempted suicide by setting fire to kerosene in his cell. He bathed his face and head with the oil and tied a rope about his neck. Two inmates raised the alarm as flames burned him badly. He was not expected to recover and awaited transfer to Sing Sing.
John Wesley Thompson, born January 20 1880 in Baltimore, died August 6 in Philadelphia after a year of illness. He served as a postal clerk in Philadelphia Central Station from 1908 until a 1920 breakdown. Funeral Wednesday at his late home 1939 Diehl Street officiated by Rev A G ., he left a widow Josephine West and no children, with a sister and four brothers among mourners.
R. G. Brown opens an office at 17 N. 59th Street Room 204 West Ocean to serve as agents for The lie dan the per at the one bilew this office.
An Anti Ku Klux Klan committee in Philadelphia invites aid to counter threats from the Klan. The letter warns of intimidation against African Americans and other groups and calls for defense at a meeting on September 1 1921 at 8 PM, urging attendance and broader organization.
Chicago crowds applaud the Community Choirs after a Saturday night recital on the pier described by the Herald and Examiner as the greatest song recital ever held there. The chorus also performed at White Sox Park during the Firemen's Benefit with songs like Hall Chicago Mammy and Trail.
Atlanta, Aug 22. Mattie Poole, 16 Hood Drive, is held without bond as police investigate a claim that she tried to murder her 16 year old son William. William said a breakfast tasted wrong and the food sample to Fort McPherson indicated poison enough to kill five or six men. Police say the motive may involve life insurance.
Congress members press for a Negro tubercular and neuropsychiatric hospital in the South. Congressman Lamar Jeffers notes consultants favor Atlanta, with the facility destined for Black patients, as southern cities withdraw their claims.
Cape May New Jersey August 22 The Nonpareet Club given by the Dale Hotel entertained more than two hundred guests last Thursday evening. Music was supplied by the Dale orchestra. Guests included the Colony and Cape May elite and hotel employees. The committee in charge were James K Davis Johnson James Culp Rot W Jordan George Rey Henry Wil George Shields Lewis Kaiser George Hall.

The twenty second annual National Negro Business League meeting in Atlanta August 17 to 19 drew many delegates from across the country. Officers and delegates reported harmony and mutual confidence, with sessions at Big Bethel Church and the Auditorium Armory. The day before opening, Citizens Trust Company, a new Atlanta bank at 176 Auburn Avenue with 260000 capital, was announced with H C Dugas as president and Heman E Perry involved.

In Waukegan Illinois on August 22 doctors report Dorothea Nelson eight daughter of Mr and Mrs Nels Nelson Bristol Wisconsin suffered year long stomach pains that revealed a second digestive organ after examination and operation. Dorothea is recovering at home in Bristol following the procedure.
Edward F. Frazier sailed for Copenhagen to study the Go-Operative system and economics under a $1000 Scandinavian-American Society scholarship. He is the son of Mrs. Mary Frazier of 523 Bloom Street and holds a Master of Arts from Clark University.
Joshua Bennett a Chicago barber, burdened by repeated business losses and a small bank balance of 25 dollars, walked to the lake at the end of 66th street and drowned himself. His body was later recovered. He belonged to Grace Church and left two brothers and a cousin as survivors.
The body of Private Percy Everson, son of Mrs. Sophia Everson of 2110a Morgan, was found near the Richmond railroad station shortly after the St. Louis train departed. Local railroad workers discovered the body.

Roosevelt Hall hosted a large, enthusiastic gathering of colored voters who stayed late to hear Amos Scott and G Edward Dickerson endorse his mayoral bid. Dickerson praised Scott while others tried to air factional disputes, but chairman Grant steered the meeting toward unity.
A San Antonio crowd heard about a snake “dance of death” when a woman was bitten twice by a snake bought from a man, who faced talk of lynching. Doctors say she will live despite being very sick. The incident occurred during a chamber of commerce entertainment for embryo soldiers.
