Frank E. Kellbach, former Court of Ordinary clerk in Chatham county Georgia, died by his own hand Wednesday night after leaping from the steamer Chattahoochee en route from Savannah to New York. The 37 year old man left a letter for his parents and had recently lost his chief clerk position. Kellbach, a prominent Savannah figure and musician, had accumulated property and turned $300 to the purser for safekeeping. The steamer arrived today.
In Wellington Kansas a woman threw a lighted match into a gasoline can during a revival in a Tabernacle with about 1000 attendees. Flames erupted causing a stampede to the doors. Many were injured though none seriously. The pastor aided firefighting efforts and the blaze was stopped with minor losses.
In Atlantic City on November 29 two men wheeled to the Guarantee Trust Company the School Savings Fund money totaling $850 in small change. Local deposits by school children total $28,000 with the largest single deposit $20 and the biggest per-child amount $200. The fund has proven a great success and teaches children practical banking.
The transport Buford with two battalions of the Twenty third Infantry aboard is several days overdue to New York from the Philippines. No fear is felt at the War Department. heavy northwest gales over the North Atlantic are delaying the voyage.
General Chaffee reports the transport Wright wrecked at Manila dated yesterday. The ship rests in 15 feet of water with concern that enough wrecking power may not be available to float her. Much of the cargo is expected to be saved though damaged.
In Trenton on November 20, Miss Lillie Thompson aged 26 married John B. Harding, 86. Harding had adopted Thompson eighteen years earlier and she had served as his housekeeper since his wife’s death years before.
Lebanon reports A Frank Moshiter of Pleasant Hill has suffered incessant hiccups for a week. Doctors warn death is likely unless relief comes soon.
