He was remanded to Ludlow Street Jail for nonpayment. He is son of Rev G W Smiley of Pottsville Pa. He is said to have swindled other bottling and browsing firms to this city and in Boston and Philadelphia.

Louisville Officer Killed in Laurel County Moonshine Raid
Special Bailiff W. F. Killion was killed during an attempted arrest of moonshiners in Laurel County. Officers attacked a fortified house as moonshiners surrendered after eight to ten volleys. Killion was shot four times and died almost instantly.
