Sixteen representatives favored action and twelve against as Scranton reports show a pending strike. The executive committee met all day without a decision and set to reconvene, while Mitchell remained silent on concessions. A labor official called a strike inevitable, noting strong demand and prosperity as factors.
Special meetings of several locales were held this evening amid secrecy. Reports that the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Company stocked coal in yards here for a long struggle were denied. Superintendent Tasker said tonight there is positively no coal in the yards.
Reading Company President Baer, the spokesman for anthracite operators, spent yesterday at Reading Terminal receiving frequent updates from Scranton and New York. He refused comment on a potential strike saying he would be a clam. An intimate friend said he did not anticipate a strike.
In Johnstown on May 7 a mass meeting of about 60,000 workers from ten Webster Coal and Coke Company mines decided to strike until the Altoona mining scale is signed. Ehrenfeld turnout was large with near full participation. A Lathrop offer to collect one cent per weighman was rejected as miners demand two to three cents from bar men and miners. The union insists the company adopt the Altoona joint convention scale now used by nearby operators.
Ten thousand carpet operatives from Ingram Loom Fixers and Weavers Union plan a strike of sixty three local firms unless a 10 percent wage increase for heavy grade weavers is agreed. A meeting at Enterprise Hall Kensington Avenue and B Streets will hear manufacturers’ reply.
In Shamokin on May 7 the 300 man strike at Sterling Colliery operated by the Reading Company ended when two previously discharged union men were rehired, meeting the strikers demand for reinstatement.

They were injured by a falling door and hay but rescued by fellow firefighters. The barn and its hay were destroyed with a $1,000 loss.
Archbishop Ryan and Bishop Pred travel to New York at dawn to attend the funeral of Archbishop Corrigan. Ryan, a lifelong friend, will deliver the funeral sermon. The invitation was received at the archiepiscopal residence yesterday.
Jacob Litt and Henry W. Savage plan a Pittsburg theatre to combat Klaw and Erlanger. They have purchased Sixth street property from Henry W. Phipps and will build an office structure with a twenty foot rear theatre entrance.
Philadelphia Republicans face a split over Fourth and Fifth district races. A fusion bid in the Fourth district would pit reform factions and Democrats against party traditionalists led by Mayor Ashbridge who backs Wil lam W. Foulkrod as successor to Morrell. Harrisburg May 7 Special to The Philadelphia Times Attorney General Elkin speaks to supporters here claiming he will secure seven delegates from Dauphin and delegation from Westmoreland, Armstrong primaries set for Saturday. He says if defeated he will back the ticket and expects opposition to back his nomination. Senator Mitchell notes Elkin is the likely nominee with no opposition aside from officeholders.
Attorney General John P. Elkin accepts a public debate challenge from Colonel Louis A. Watres on Friday night at the Armory in Wilkes-Barre with 3 000 capacity. The event follows an open letter by Charles A. Miner and Morgan BR Williams urging the clash to discuss gubernatorial campaign issues.

CHICAGO May 7 The Rev Timothy Mc Guire pastor of St Kevin s Roman Catholic Church was found dead in a bath tub at the parish house of his church due to drowning authorities said. The death is being investigated as a possible accident or foul play.
