Monte Carlo and Tom: A Camp Outcast and His Cat

In Thompson's Flat Montana a lone miner named Monty, despised by rival miners, is forced into exile by a brutal boycott. He befriends a camp cat, Tom, whose companionship sustains him through loneliness and danger, including an Indian siege. Monty finally rescues his cat from a burning cabin, is mortally wounded, and dies beside Tom as a police detachment arrives to salvage survivors.
