President backs reciprocity with Cuba against bounty schemes
The New York Tribune reports the President remains committed to reciprocal trade with Cuba as outlined by his predecessor and reaffirmed in last December's message. He would veto any rebate or bounty, even suggesting a special session to pass a straightforward reciprocity bill. The piece argues bounty harms Cuba and U S interests and could be unconstitutional, noting beet sugar interests push for compromise while opposing courts.
