Last of Bogus Money Men Held
Daniel R. Hayes the last prisoner in the Jacobs Kerdig counterfeit ring was arraigned before U S Commissioner Craig and jailed in 5000 bail. He admitted guilt and said Harry Taylor hired him for 850 a day to pass Taylor notes. Burns testified Taylor paid Hayes to circulate counterfeit $20s and keep the change. Hayes’s wife appeared and urged his defense as detectives noted the scheme’s arrest began with a Dunlevy bicycle store note. District Attorney Beck urged leniency to care for his family, while stating Hayes’s arrest would be the final act in the case.
