Norcross of 200 Spruce street reported two counterfeit half dollars passed on him days earlier. Detectives Bond and Donaghy arrested Harry Cheeseman and Isaac Harker at 423 South Second street. Flooding from rain hindered information. the cyclone’s path ran about 200 yards wide.
George Zane was fatally wounded by his brother John during a drunken quarrel at the Zane family home in Camden on Christmas night. George, newly married to Maggie McClintock, was shot in the head while intervening as John aimed at their father-in-law James McClintock. John, about 25, was jailed at City Hall awaiting the outcome as doctors sought to remove a bullet lodged near major neck vessels.

Morris Solvene, a well dressed young man, rented a room at Summit Hotel on Canal and Bowery and shot himself in the heart with a 38 caliber revolver. He left a note to his brother Herman Solvene, No 111 East Broadway, claiming the reason for his death. no one with that address could be found. Investigations by the Coroner will follow.
Seventh district officer heard a splash at Callowhill street wharf near the Delaware and saved Carrie Hoffman, 38, of 386 St John street, who jumped overboard with intent to die. She was taken to the district station, later found writhing in agony in a cell, with a doctor summoned to treat her.
The Medical Jaggeron Society met at the College of Physicians and elected George W. Biddle president and Dr. John J. Reese first vice president. A committee including McMurtrie and lawyers was formed to draft an act for treating habitual drunkards opium eaters and other addicts, proposing temporary loss of property control and possible confinement with the aim of establishing a legal framework.

Dr Timmins was summoned to a Vine Street tenement where a woman identified as Margaret Wright about thirty five lay with a newborn child whose skull was crushed. The doctor reported to Lieutenant Shields and the woman was placed under arrest after Pennsylvania Hospital refused admission. Her husband is an oysterman.
The coke pool formed by the Pennsylvania, Baltimore and Ohio, and Pittsburg McKeesport and Youghlegheny railroads expired last Wednesday. Attempts to reorganize failed as Pittsburg McKeesport and Youghlegheny claim twenty to thirty five percent of shipments while serving only seven percent of ovens. The Pennsylvania and Baltimore and Ohio oppose this share, blocking agreement.

A steam saw mill owned by J. R. Williams eight miles south of Sauru Creep Ohio exploded this morning. The boiler blew a mile away, causing $5000 in damage. Three people named John Evans Hiram Evans and Willie Armstrong were instantly killed. J G Evans suffered severe burns and Walter Morrison was badly hurt. Cause cited as excessive mud in the boiler.
A new West End Democratic Club has organized in the west end of the Second ward with nearly 200 members. The group aims to remain independent of local faction labels. Temporary headquarters are at 914 South Eleventh street, with H. C. Loughlin as president and Thomas McCormick as secretary.
Crystal Ridge and South Sugar Soap collieries operated by A Pardee and Co suspend work due to weak coal market. Workers with families to be employed at other mines, while unmarried men and Hungarians face suspension.
