A strike by United Traction Company trolley workers halted service on Reading and nearby streets. Riotermen conductors and other staff began the walkout after a demand for meetings with management, leaving lines jammed and fares in question in the Reading and Southwestern streets area.

Mary Harkins aged 17 of Stonehouse eelanes died yesterday at Vania Hospital after being found unconscious on Monday. Doctors cannot determine the cause and an inquest is expected.
A large storage house owned by Mrs. Peter Voorhees at the White House in Fremington was destroyed by fire in the early morning hours. James N. Pidcock reported losses from the blaze and neighbors aided in efforts to combat the flames.
In Tacoma on January 8 Prescott Frank Sloan kissed Miss Elia Boone blindfolded. She pulled a hat pin from her hat and stabbed him in the leg. Blood poisoning followed and Sloan died after an X-ray failed to locate the pin. Boone had said she had never been kissed, a remark tied to the fatal act.
A fire at a Pittsburg gun factory section caused extensive damage this afternoon. Officials say about 75000 dollars in property was destroyed and the blaze required a lengthy effort to control.
The House adopted the Burleigh measure to enlarge the House to 286 members, adding two seats for Pennsylvania and balancing losses for Virginia and Nebraska. The vote totaled 165 for and 102 against, with both parties’ members supporting and opposing the bill across the Pennsylvania delegation.

Special Telegram from Harbor City New Jersey reports a quarrel over love affairs between Lissie Ramsay and Leona Butler escalated to a street brawl after Butler challenged Ramsay at the clothing factory where Ramsay works. The near confrontation ended with both women fighting violently.
New York January 8 The grand jury handed up indictments against Climion mercer J. BR. Dean and others for first degree manslaughter in the case of Hilliard. Four witnesses testified including Thomas J. Minnack Coroner's Inquirer Dr Donlin and Mrs Hilliard. The autopsy found broken ribs and injuries alleged to have occurred at Bellevue Hospital.
The Senate agriculture committee plans to close hearings on the dlev ergaring bill after the next hearing Thursday. Secretary Hay remains ill with a cold, Navy Paymaster Charles P. Thompson dies, and Manila reports note Lt Louis P. Smiths death. Training ship Buffalo sails to Gibraltar en route to the Asiatic station. Mayflower returns to San Juan. House committees discuss seed disposal, a Boston revenue cutter, Arizona statehood, and general army expansion proposals amid war-time strains.
The Jacksonian banquet in Omaha highlights a chilly split between Senator Tillman and club manager as William Jennings Bryan sits at center. Tillman remains moody and isolated while Bryan faces widespread attention. Tillman later says attending the banquet was a mistake.
Baltimore January 8 The Old Town Bank a State Institution which closed its doors and went into a receiver s hands a few days ago will resume business tomorrow The American National Bank closed its doors the day before the failure of the Old Town Bank and is also expected to resume business shortly though no definite announcement has been made
Recorder Goff announced that the papers in the Molineux case will be filed this week. They will go to the chief clerk of General Sessions to be reduced to book form and forwarded to the Court of Lieutenant. The appeal makes 6000.
