A wreck on the Amboy Division near Bordentown killed about twenty and wounded twenty five as Nellie Bly No. 204 collided with local No. 330. Fire raged after the crash with rescuers racing to aid victims and transport to Trenton and Camden hospitals.
Lawyer John Jevoloman from New York describes the Camden station crash of the Nellie Bly express to Atlantic City. He and his family escaped with minor injuries after their third car toppled into a ditch while the following train allegedly refused aid to the injured.
General Manager Hutchinson of the Pennsylvania Railroad released a report at 11 last night blaming the local crew for the wreck of passenger train No 339 from Camden to Trenton around 5 15 this evening.
Two year old Catharine Gibson died fifteen minutes after admission to St Agnes Hospital from a fire that started when coals spilled onto her dress at 1441 South Howard Street. She was learning to walk and died after rapid burns to her body.

A deserter from Standerton reports Commandant General Louis Botha addressed his troops on February 2 from a Cape cart, urging them to resist surrender while men remain. He cited the American Revolution and vowed to lead, despite dwindling crops, cattle losses, and roughly six rounds of ammunition per man.
Boers destroyed a culvert on the Natal Spruit Klip river railroad line near Johannesburg at dawn. They captured a train of foodstuffs and made their escape, reporting a bold raid disrupting supply lines.
A gang seized a train carrying foodstuffs, took what they could, torched the remainder, and vanished into the veldt, leaving authorities to investigate the spectacular theft and arson.
London February 21 In the House of Commons Chamberlain said Lord Roberts proclaimed the annexation of the Boer republics on his own initiative. The Colonial Office left timing to him and surrender terms in Roberts telegram followed government instructions. The government backs military suppression of pro Boer British papers including Labouchere’s Truth. Balfour told Dillon a vote for a £100000 donation to Roberts would be announced.
A Pretoria dispatch dated February 20 reports 500 Boers crossing the Plenaars river toward Nylstroom, sixty to seventy miles north of Pretoria, in rags and riding donkeys or walking. They appear distressed and may discuss desertion and surrender.
Former United States Senator Stephen M. White died at his Los Angeles home after a short illness. Born January 19, 1853 in San Francisco, White had served in the Senate and later practiced law in California.
President McKinley announced plans for an extra session of Congress likely to begin March 25. Despite broad opposition in Congress, he stressed urgency to allow Cubans to attempt their own government or risk continued military presence on the island.
Sharon February 21 Joseph Gibson a Mercer county assemblyman answered he is against the Pittsburg Ripper bill and will vote against the Ripper clause if backed locally The statement reflects large petitions sent to Harrisburg urging Mercer county representatives to oppose the measure.
New Brunswick reports William Williamson, architect in charge, has received the Washington plans for the new Federal Post Office. Bids open March 18, building cost estimated at $100,000, two and one half stories, terra cotta and Pompeian brick, with completion within a year. The Sunday Times will serialize the story by Simon Newcomb under Harper and Brothers.
