Washington February 5 Mr Fisher chairman of the house committee on coinage weights and measures said the statement that Director of the Mint Burchard favored continued coinage of silver was not true He would appear before the committee Wednesday and explain why the five dollar coinage should be discontinued The committee met and deemed it inadvisable to discontinue coinage but advised paying out all money in the Treasury except for gold and silver certificate redemption and 25 percent of the greenback reserve A report with a recommendation for more vault space in the Mississippi valley was ordered to be sent to the House
Special Dispatch reports Walcott, the quail-eater, completed the thirtieth brace. A $250 stake grew to $4,000 as bets shifted. about ten thousand spectators watched as Walcott cleaned seven minutes per brace. Physicians attended, confirming his condition remains strong.
Two coal miners Thomas Meredith and Benjamin Warren planned a shotgun duel at Scotia's Hollow after a quarrel near Elizabeth Pa. They met with friends at twenty-one yards when officers intervened, arresting all but Warren who escaped. Meredith was jailed to await court.
Mrs Maggie Weyman a young woman faced the Criminal Court on murder charges. The alleged act occurred at the home of the victim on Ross Street last summer when a lighted lamp was hurled or dropped, setting the victim afire and causing fatal injuries.

Elias Wagner of Mohrsville a brakeman on the Philadelphia and Reading Road was killed today while coupling cars. The bumper of one car overlapped the other and he was squeezed to death. He was thirty, unmarried and had worked as a brakeman for the railroad for several years.
New Haven details: Clark Peck, Opera House manager, arrested for renting to a colored jubilee singers band. He was fined twenty dollars plus costs. he appealed. The four singers were arrested but released on costs about seven dollars each.
Mrs Kate Murray died at Charity Hospital from injuries after a brutal beating by her husband Edward Murray during a broken quarrel Thursday night. Murray is escaptured and will be arraigned on a charge of murder.
The Reform conference backed Colonel William Ludlow for Chief Engineer of the Water Department and Alexander J. McCleary for Commissioner of Markets and City Property. Ludlow won a majority on the final ballot. McCleary led the second ballot for Markets and City Property with a strong showing and is favored to secure a council majority.
Thomas H. Levy an entry clerk for Smith Kline & Co wholesale druggists 807 North Third street appeared before Magistrate Lennon yesterday morning on embezzlement accusations. Bail set at 2500 for trial. Silas Y Hellerman a junior member of the pastnesenay that expired by limitation last year shot himself on New Year’s Day a Desenets jury found not a case of suicide.
John Parker on trial for the Payton murder in September killed his wife Nellie Parker in the St. Louis Criminal Court this morning and then shot himself. The couple’s 2 year old child was left to Emma Parker as officers rushed the scene. The wife worked in a laundry and the man was a moulder by trade.
Governor Pattison is expected to send his promised message to the Senate tomorrow. He will include suggestions on legislative subjects, with Page for Control likely to be named. Supporters and opponents of Page eyed as votes may shift on confirming an elective office.
February 5 New Orcrans reports the royal welcome as Rex lands by steam, artilery salutes ring, and the Krewe of Proteus stages its second pageant. The Krewe, first appearing in 1882, presents a history of France amid a crowded, weather-threatened crowd.
At the Norristown Democratic borough convention William S Teany Frank T Beever Harry C Smith and William M DeHaven were nominated for Burgess. Second ward delegates named Jonas A Cassel for Town Council and Third ward named Zieberhard. Other ward nominations postponed. Republicans set for next Monday for their borough conventions and delegate elections the following Saturday.
A south bound passenger train and a north bound freight collided near Ki kwood at Ki kwood at about 3 30. Engineer John Miller and Fireman Pat Howard of the passenger train were killed. Engineer Frank Truman and Frank Wheeler the baggage master were killed. The engines wrecked and five freight cars plus baggage cars left the track. One passenger Mr Thirkield of Anna Station was badly scalded and injured. The accident stemmed from a misunderstanding of orders.
Reading businessmen met to support tariff protection and praise current prosperity. Isaac Mecrose presided and resolutions urging prompt congressional action were signed as a petition to Congressman Ermentrout in Washington.
Milwaukee February 5 The Coroner's jury verdict pins culpable negligence on the Newhall House proprietor for not hiring enough watchmen and failing to awaken inmates in time The inquiry found the building had easy exits and two outside escapes but faulted the owner for insufficient fire escapes and critiqued the surrounding telegraph wire network

One hundred infantry and artillery from the Louisville Legion under Major John H. Leathers left on a special train for Lexington at 11 this morning. They will report to Colonel John Allen for Peeceville orders during the Neal and Craft trial in Carter County starting tomorrow. Delos P. Southworth former City Treasurer died yesterday in Monte Carlo France. Born in New Britain Connecticut he moved to the city as a boy and rose from humble means to public service and business. He served as internal revenue assessor and later Supervisor of Internal Revenue before being elected City Treasurer in 1876. He went abroad about three years ago to seek health.
Wayne MacVeagh, counsel for foreign creditors, asked Common Pleas Court No 2 to halt the sale of Hero Glass Works owned by William A. Leavitt. The petition valued the property at 350000 dollars with a 150000 dollar mortgage and small ground rent. The judge doubted the sufficiency of the facts but said other creditors could intervene to set aside the sale if needed.
Vice Chancellor Van Fleet ruled yesterday for William L. Elkins in the suit against the Camden and Atlantic Railroad to stop the postponement of the stockholders annual meeting set for the twenty second. Charles Vansciver a fireman of Truck A faced a magistrate yesterday on charges of assault and battery against Frank L Schlemm of 2012 Fairmount Avenue. Schlemm testified Vansciver struck him in the face several times after warning him to stay out of the Twenty first division election in the Fifteenth ward on January 22. Vansciver was held to answer.
Special Officer Hagan within forty eight hours has arrested William Harrington William Black Charles Birch on charges of waylaying Bernard Wiler and Charles Shock at Ballasley and South street and stealing Wiler s gold watch and chain Charles Young fugitive from Camden Jail and recently took a coat gun and two sextants from Charles Miller 317 Bainbridge street and John Hiebel and John Mahan on theft of clothing.
The Buffalo New York and Philadelphia line train from Olean to Buffalo plunged into Ischua Creek after high water undermined the track. Engineer Hall and Fireman Briggs were killed Conductor Love was seriously wounded and several passengers were slightly injured.
An unknown young woman traveling from Macon toward Atlanta threw her infant from a car window near Frankville while the train was at full speed. The child was found by road hands, badly bruised but alive. The motive and identity remain unclear.
A 12,000 barrel oil tank at Cooper Station Forest county burst today and set fire to the United Pipe Line Station. Mrs Davey was burned to death and Mr Cal Heegar and others were badly injured. Loss estimated around 50 000 dollars.
