Harrisburg December 23 It is stated here on credible authority that Mr Cassidy today told Mr Stenger of Chambersburg he would accept the Attorney Generalship under Governor Pattison and asked Stenger to indicate acceptance of the Secretaryship of the Commonwealth It is rumored Stenger may decline while Cassidy weighs the choice
In Wilkesboro North Carolina Edmund Rush reportedly cut his threat with a razor at a Lutheran pierce near town today before hanging himself with a rope. His body was found shortly afterward and no motive is given in the report.
Ashville North Carolina December 23 An accident occurred on the Western Railroad near this place to Isaac Seave the former severed were terribly near the effect of his injuries he died from them.
Washington dispatch reports a day of confusion in Congress over civil service reform. The Senate failed to pass the measure with a key amendment defeated 18 to 23 and adjourned until Wednesday. House proceedings were chaotic with a half quorum and frequent gaveling as members left for holidays, signaling no substantial work next week.

In Ga lesburg Illinois last night a heavy trunk fell from a truck and burst open revealing a man about thirty with his throat slit from ear to ear. A train passenger was found with a matching check and detained after refusing to speak. The trunk had originated in Chicago and the body showed little decomposition.

Miss Hawkins and Mrs Moore of CuIeAGo have been jailed for horsewhipping Dr Evetsky two weeks earlier in a slander dispute. The doctor attacked his partner Dr Clay over the incident and later died by his own hand yesterday.
Galveston dispatch reports Tillery and Prentiss rode out of town intoxicated, halted two miles from town for a drink, and an argument escalated. Tillery struck Prentiss with a billet of wood, killing him instantly, authorities said.

ATLANTA December 23 In an East Tennessee Virginia and Georgia Railroad accident today six cars ran off the track J D Bishop a brakeman was recovered dead from under the cars with a fatal injury marked by the wreck occurring in Georgia on the line of the East Tennessee Virginia and Georgia Railroad near Atlanta.
A Minneapolis family of six was poisoned after eating canned jelly and one child remains in serious condition. The incident, reported on December 23, involves a medical scare tied to the jelly product. Further details from officials and patient statuses are to be released.
The James Smyth & Co firm, makers of ginghams and cotton goods, has suspended payment amid debts estimated around 400 000 to 500 000 dollars. Henry C Bispham, born in Philadelphia in 1811, died Friday in Rome Italy. A student of William T Richards, he studied in Paris under Otto Webber before returning to practice in Philadelphia and New York. His painting The Stampede was shown at the Centennial and his works were owned by notable collectors. He leaves a wife and one child.
The court did not press a new trial in the Teresa Sturla murder case and she received a one year penitentiary term. She spoke calmly explaining the sentence and judging the jurors who would not convict, praised her counsel, showed no insanity, and hinted at a stage career after release.
