After a four hour session Select Council approved moving the old liberty bell to New Orleans with a three police guard. Baker, 37, of Philadelphia, leaves a wife and children. Hershey, also from Philadelphia, survived by care. Wrecks cleared by afternoon.
In Geneva area near Cleveland two miles from the farm, farmer Harrington is killed by a masked robber who extorted money and shot his wife Mrs Harrington when she identified him as Feck also known as Peck. Lewis Webster arrested on murder charges, taken to Jefferson to avert lynching.

Special Dispatch to Tax Trorea Lebanon December 18 This town is greatly excited over the mysterious disappearance of a well known business man Andrew Moore of the firm of Shirk Moore shoe dealers Moore disappeared right before last but his absence was only made known this morning He was at the store during the evening but nothing has been heard of him since There are rumors of financial irregularities but the Lebanon bank officials are reticent and refuse to say anything Moore is 40 years old and has a wife but no children He was an active member of Zion s Lutheran Church and superintendent of the Sunday school.
Special Dispatch to The Times reports George H. Proctor, one of three men who robbed the United States Express safe at Susquehanna on June 21, 1883, was captured near the Canada line by Pinkerton men. He is held for grand jury action after a hearing, his $11,000 share lost in oil speculations. His partners are two notorious burglars now in custody.
Special Dispatch reports Ferdinand Ward's library sold by order of the receiver in New York at auction. Audubon Birds of America in nine volumes fetched 150 dollars per volume. An album with photographs of forty seven actors and actresses sold for 2.75 dollars. A Lehigh University volume titled Artistic source of five hundred copies brought 75 dollars.
December 18 Wrixes name, Thomas Pen hall of Chicago, forged Philip Hancock signatures on money orders in May, obtaining cash. He was arrested at Red Ash Mine while working as a miner and committed to await Post Office Inspector Abels of Philadelphia and Deputy Mar k Sherman of Milinoia for hearing before the U.S. commissioner.
Captain William M. Lenox one of the first ratmen on the Delaware river has died in North Adams Massachusetts at sixty nine. He and his brother helped originate the raft transfer between this city and Philadelphia. He once captained a steamer between Philadelphia and Boston before returning to rafting.
In Newtown on December 18 at 9 30 A M a building of the Metal lic Cap Company near Hethayros Station on the Bound Brook line exploded. Superintendent G M Slughes and a boy named George Owens died in the blast. The Orm is engaged in the manufacture of oxy forite carteldges. Ji is amy Gounsetcut Sorel.

It notes citizens plan a U S display of arts manufactures and resources and asks the President to move the New Orleans exhibit to London after the fair. An appropriation of 300000 is proposed.
Special Dispatch from Washington reports friends of President Arthur criticize Blaine supporters in New York for opposing Arthur’s Senate bid. They cite election returns from districts with Arthur delegates showing Blaine gains over Garfield and argue Blaine delegates should favor Arthur to thwart Conkling’s influence and Arthur’s defeat.
Mr West submitted a Senate joint resolution declaring that the proposed Nicaragua surveying expedition ordered by the Navy Secretary is illegal without Congress consent. It directs the Secretary not to enforce the orders until definite action by Congress. The resolution went over. West plans to call it up tomorrow as an expedition sails from New York on Saturday.

The fire caused widespread destruction but authorities hope no additional lives are lost.
The police committee was told repairs on the tug Stokley are finished and settlement with contractors near. A trial trip is set for next Monday at one, departing Chestnut street wharf with Councilmen aboard. Mayor Smith also announced a January 5 patrol system demonstration for city bank presidents and the Grace Baptist Church was given tentative approval to erect a frame chapel on Clearfield street.

Special dispatch notes Dr. Henry Detwiller reached eighty ninth year with a family gathering in Easton. Attending were his sons Dr J J Detwiller of Easton and Dr William Detwiler of Hellertown, daughters Mrs Martin of Allentown and Mrs Lilliendahl of Jersey City, plus grandchildren. His wife died fifty years ago. Detwiller, born in Switzerland, helped found the first homoeopathic academy in Allentown in 1834 with noted physicians.
Harrisburg December 18 The Sinking Fund Commission yesterday debated investing funds and today adopted a resolution to exchange at least 200000 monthly for United States bonds until the entire fund of about 1200000 is invested. After reaching each 200000 milestone similar action continues for remaining funds.
In a Lafayette College prank, seniors and a roommate donned masks to burst into a freshman’s room at night. The freshman pulled a pistol, firing a paper wad aimed at one intruder. A doctor removed the wad from the shooter’s neck.
Inter Ocean Omaha special reports two United States Secret Service officers are in search of Captain Howgate, a defaulter from the Signal Service. They suspect he has ties to Fort Omaha and may be nearby. Witnesses say Howgate was seen in Nebraska City three weeks ago. Nellie Burrill, alleged mistress, is in Dewitt, Neb., fueling theories he is near.
London reports a French adventurer M. Olivier Pain has infiltrated the Mahdi camp and organized a secret news service feeding Cairo and Plevna movements to the Mahdist forces. His actions provoke diplomatic strain between France and England as Wolseley denounces the scheme and fears a decoy plan to trap English camel corps across the desert.
Lonpos reports a blast at London Bridge likely triggered by dynamite suspended from a sewer grating. The explosion tamped joints and fissures near the pier, though the bridge remains structurally sound. The North German Lloyd steamer Rhein Captain Jungst returning to Southampton after colliding with the steamer York off the Lizard. Two iron plates in her bow were stove in. Rhein resumes voyage to New York tonight.
London December 18 reports indicate Grand Duchess Sergius of Russia has asked the Czar to grant her a divorce from Grand Duke, alleging he maintains a mistress.
A Turin dispatch reports no truth to the rumor of Louis Kossuth's death. The veteran statesman is said to be in excellent health, with no foundation for reports of his demise.
Portland dispatch notes Lieuten ant Abercrombie on General Miles’ staff has returned from Alaska after a Yukon River survey covering 2,700 miles. He finds rich mining prospects for a thousand miles, though the season is short and mining difficult. The Neutsnant cites the fisheries as the finest known.
The Court of Appeal issues a rule nisi for a new trial in the Bradlaugh case. He was convicted of illegally voting in the House of Commons, prompting the appeal from London on December 18.

Cuban insurgents captured aboard a small sailing vessel near Cuba by the gunboat Caridad are identified as General Bonadheo Colonel Plutarco Estrada Captain Manuel Estrada Captain Pedro Lestor Ensigns Pedro Jose Oro Miguel Suarez Armando Denguilinet Jose Tonesa and Pedro Peralta and Pilot Hernardino Torres Four Greek sailors are also prisoners They have been moved to Jones Keys for careful repair and confinement as the general belief holds they will be executed.
Richard Treuke, condemned for Augusta Zimm’s murder, showed deep religiosity in confinement. When Sheriff Kelm read the death warrant fixing February 12 for execution, Treuke remained calm, asked for a clergyman, and resumed reading his Bible after the request was granted.

The carriage toppled over a steep rocky embankment fatally injuring Mr Shaefer and his wife. The daughter escaped with slight injuries.
December 18 report states Alphonse Micheaux killed Marline Sonean then shot himself Tuesday evening. He was buried today in the same grave as his victim. The Glass-blowers' Union, of which Micheaux was a member, attended. The woman's little daughter witnessed the obsequies and will be sent to Europe to join her father, who was deserted by the mother.

John H Sinsabaugh of 1529 North Twenty fifth Street faced Magistrate Smith yesterday on larceny as bailee and embezzlement charges. HU Be Paine of Scranton testified that $125 was obtained on false pretences and a September draft was intercepted and diverted. Bail set at $500 on each charge. he was remanded for a further hearing.
A Republican meeting of Thirtieth ward citizens elected John G Williamson as president John Jack as secretary and Samuel Bayles as treasurer. Captain James McCormack was endorsed for Select Council and a 22 member campaign committee was appointed to canvass voters.

In Avensra Georgia on December 18 a chemical explosion at Lamar & Co. pharmacy occurred while William Holt, a colored helper, was mixing chlorate of potash under a chemist. Holt died within an hour after the blast, as the chemist and a nearby sweeper were knocked down.
The German Society met at 27 South Seventh Street for its annual gathering last night marking 120 years since the society’s founding. After committee reports, new officers were elected including President J. C. File, Vice Presidents E. F. Molling and Dr. G. Kellner, and multiple board secretaries and directors.
Providence December 18 Slater Cotton Mills Pawtucket post a wage reduction effective December 20 with terms to be announced. Eight hundred workers affected, last of large local mills in this class to cut pay. Kent Woolen Mill Centreville also cuts wages by ten percent after this week. Taunton Massachusetts December 18 Whittenton Mills resume operations with seventy five weavers.
Edward Gitting colored man was sentenced today in the Criminal Court to five years in the penitentiary for arson on July 3. Carried into court frail from pulmonary consumption, he nearly collapsed as the sentence was pronounced. Judge Phelps showed emotion and contemplated a pardon petition. His wife and child narrowly escaped death in the incident.
Sheriff Boden of Athens county asked Governor Hoadly to dispatch two companies of troops to the Hocking Valley. The governor considered the request and said new authorities could meet any emergency.

Lanois as English George, a profesal who had been in its country about three months. Awards totaling 2769 in favor of the plaintiff were made yesterday.
