Gas main repair men overcome by escaping gas

Hanging in Canada: James Slavin executed for Constable Davey’s murder
James Slavin alias McMahon was hanged at 7 45 this morning in Cornwall for killing Constable J R Davey on September 5. Witnesses were limited to the press, medical staff and about fifty citizens. Slavin, 24, described his life from 1885 on the Sunbury line and his January 1890 robbery, then his fatal fight with Jack Diamond Roach ended in shot by Lefevre before Davey arrested him. His body was buried in the court house yard ten minutes after death.
