The Commonwealth v Chester Fulmer in Stroudsburg ended with a guilty verdict after days of testimony. Fulmer, son of Henry Fulmer a wealthy Easton iron dealer, was linked to jewelry and money missing from Philadelphia guests rooms last August. Witnesses placed him near the robbed rooms and a later search found coins in his possession. He denied the charges, claiming intoxication, but corroborated testimony challenged his defense. The trial drew notable attention and a motion for a new trial was made.
Special Dispatch reports from New York on December 13 state that Congressman Charles H. Voorhis of Hackensack New Jersey has been indicted by the Bergen county grand jury for bank related transactions at the First National Bank of Hackensack now under Comptroller of the Currency. Reports abroad claiming new attempts on the Czar’s life are deemed exaggerated. Police in Moscow investigated the recent assassination attempt and found that further crimes were contemplated, but details cannot be published for obvious reasons.
Dispatch from Cape Town reports colonial troops stormed Mofrosi Mountain on November 2. Chief Mofrosi was killed, two colonists wounded, and two native allies killed. Attack on Chief Seccoent postponed to November 27.
The Peruvian Charge d Affaires reports a partial engagement at Tara paca where 2,000 Chilians were routed, 1,000 killed, and 11 Krupp guns and 4 mitrailleuse captured.

A Berlin dispatch to the Pall Mall Gazette reports that Catholic clergy reject the government concession to supervise religious instruction in schools. They insist they should personally provide instruction as before the Falk law enactment.
A second entertainment for the Old Ladies' Home in West Philadelphia is set for Friday evening at the Amateur Drawing Room on December 19. Authorities have finally installed a railing along the hazardous boardwalk from Thirty-third Street to the railway bridge on Haverford Street. Henry F. Glaid, London banker and American Exchange proprietor, is in the city for General Grant’s reception at the Colonnade. A strike at Winger Hocking Hosiery Mills in Germantown ended with workers returning to the old half-cent per dozen raise. Cigar maker Mancus Powak of 233 Beaver Street is to answer a government bookkeeping charge for November 6 to 29. Rev J. M. Purs, D. D., will be installed as pastor of Chambers Presbyterian Church at Broad and Sansom, with ceremonies led by Rev Drs Crowell, Breed, Patterson and Dana.
