Wayne suffered severe burns to head and face, Wright sustained serious leg injuries. Wayne had recently recovered from illness. The blast likely fatal outcomes are feared.
Egyptian forces under Arabi repulsed Wolseley at the Tel-el-Mahuta dam during Thursday and Friday engagements, forcing a British retirement at dusk on Friday. Arabi's troops aimed to sever Ismailia water supply by the dam, while Wolseley led a near-mortal advance to dislodge Arabs ahead of Cairo amid heavy rifle fire and a near-miss shell that stunned the general's horse.

A Hong Kong telegram reports four thousand native deaths from Asiatic cholera in a Philippine province, with the epidemic now easing. Only six fatalities have occurred among Europeans.
Petersburg dispatch reports the death of R. C. Gray of Surrey County by self inflicted act at Disputanta station on the Atlantic and Western Railroad last evening. Gray was married to Mrs. C. Gray and was a well known local figure.
The joint executive committee met at Commissioner Fink's office to review differential rates from here to Cincinnati Chicago and St Louis. A October 2 meeting will reconsider Sept 1 adjustments. Commissions will be paid only on specified paths with restrictions to prevent fare reductions and to avoid promotional advertising of lines. The Pennsylvania Railroad temporarily accepts fares among St Louis Chicago Philadelphia Baltimore and Washington amid protest over St Louis Baltimore pricing.
The Cliff House hotel at Newport owned by Mrs. Gammell burned this morning. Two adjoining cottages were badly damaged. No lives were lost. Guests were in bed but saved most belongings. Fire started in the cook house and spread quickly. The Cliff House loss is $20,000 with moderate insurance. lessee William T. Hall loses $12,000 on furniture and $9,000 on insured value.
Between 10 and 12 this morning a locomotive was thrown off the Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad track at Stoner ville, sixteen miles south of Greensburg. The heavy train pushed the engine along four cars, toppled, and five cars piled on top. The accident occurred in a fifteen foot deep cut. one car landed across the cut forming a bridge. The locomotive was completely smashed and engineer Elmer Johns dislocated a shoulder. An oak cross-bar drove into the box-car door and propelled the locomotive off the track. Workmen continue clearing the wreck.
Striking weavers meet at 1751 North Fourth Street. Seventeen have found work elsewhere and five more will move to other mills on Monday. Only two have returned to the old plant. An executive committee formed by the embryo union will draft rules and consider a broader general union for all classes of weavers.
Auburn residents expect the Advertiser to report that Courtney and backers helped a horse race in the Union Sprin le event. The Union Sprin le is said to have caused thousands in losses, with a single man losing about $3000. Local sport fans call the race an outrageous robbery.
New York on August 26 James Elliott and E Baan signed and posted 500 each to fight for 2500 within one hundred miles of New Orleans on November 28 William F McCoy was chosen final stakeholder.
SHILOH Ohio August 26 In a quarrel over enforcing the Sunday sale ban Rev W Lee of the Methodist Episcopal Church was seriously wounded by John E Smith a leading local figure.
New York reports five year old Little Nellie Brown, believed kidnapped Tuesday night, was found drowned in the harbor as authorities investigate the circumstances and search for clues.
General Simon Cameron denounces an alleged Independent Republican push in the state as a tool of free traders. He argues the movement aims to defeat the tariff party, restore free trade Democrats, and cites Blaine and Garfield to bolster his view while condemning Independents for misusing Republican icons.
West Chester lawyers Mickey Kennard and Thomas B Butler clashed near Darlington’s broker office over a Messenger editorial. A six girl party completes a month long hike across North Carolina arriving in Laurinburg. They started near Hendersonville and logged about 120 miles though aiming for 500 plus. They faced sunburn, occasional danger, and kept a log book of 1246 pages.
Acting Secretary of the Navy reports a death from yellow fever at Pensacola. Telegrams note cordons from Corpus Christi to Laredo extended by Mexican authorities. John Kane forty one years old of 1917 Parrish street was run over by his wagon at Fifth and Vine streets about noon yesterday. He suffered a dislocated right thigh and internal injuries and died at the Pennsylvania Hospital at 8:30 p m last night.
William Horn a yard boss for Merriman and Son at their saw mill in Williamsport was knocked from a trestle and run over by a switch engine. His left leg was crushed so severely it required amputation.
Dot Loo, the Chinaman assaulted in Camden by a gang of youths on Monday night, was arrested yesterday and held to bail by Justice Fuller on a charge of assaulting James Mc Laughlin, one of the boys he helped arrest on Tuesday.

Twenty one Mexicans are at Kelleys Ranch and ten at Beasleys Ranch. The town is wiped away with eight houses remaining, the courthouse and jail lost, telegraph down, and San Anew residents unable to cross the North Concho to help. The scene is described as indescribable with debris and ruined property everywhere.
Long Branch Gun Club held its sixth annual reunion at DeAL Beacon New Jersey with a handicap rise of ten birds. Alfred Biddle, visiting Philadelphia crack shot, won the glittering silver and gold wine cup. Alfred Murphy took second. Anthony McDaid thirty five of 715 Plover street fractured his leg falling stairs at Atlantic City and was taken to Pennsylvania Hospital. Benjamin F. Emory driver for Liner and Bro brick-makers near Harrowgate was fined twenty dollars and costs for using two sore shouldered horses in a clay grinding mill. Paul Kohler thirty Fane old of Harrowgate lane was fined for maliciously pulling out the plug of a slop cart and letting nauseating liquid into the roadway. H White hauled coal from the great heap at the Matison School House and was told to haul it back because it was the wrong coal.
