Jury of women convicts liquor violator Nealy

A jury of seven women and five men fined C. T. Nealy of Petersburg one hundred dollars and jailed him for thirty days for liquor law violation. The jury found he manufactured intoxicating liquor and used a still brought into court as evidence. It is believed the first liquor case in the circuit court with women on the jury, the foreman being a woman.

Evanston Illinois resident L E Hilder Brand urges the establishment of local history and natural science museums in small communities. Rushville woman called home for mother’s serious illness

Mrs Claude Hoffman of Rushville was summoned Tuesday due to the serious illness of her mother Mrs Thomas O Wood of near Orwell. Eugene Miller is visiting relatives in Winslow this week.

Mrs Susan Stone Harper wife of William Harper died at home near Petersburg on May 1 at age 55. Funeral at Walnut Hills Cemetery with Rev Krieg. Survived by husband five children Edith Newkirk Oscar Elmer Mec Crillus Doris, three grandchildren, sister Mrs Sarah Bottim, brothers Stillman William Oliver Vincennes and Mc Crillus. She joined Cumberland Presbyterian church at Iva at age 11 and lived a faithful life. She expressed longing for heaven and faced illness with cheerfulness, leaving a message of perfect submission and hope.

Traylor Soldier Dies at 24 After WWI Service

Thomas Jenning Traylor, son of Lewis and Maggie Traylor, born near Algiers on November 19, 1897, served after the armistice with the 41st Company O RD Camp Pontanez. He sailed July 19 1919 from Hoboken landed in France July 31 suffered illness led to discharge December 28 1920 died May 12 1922. Survived by mother brother half sister Mona Gardner and half brothers Bonnie Harley Claude Amos. Funeral held at Orwell with Rev Rumbly.

Ollie Survant Dies After Illness in Winslow

Ollie Survant aged 45 of Winslow died at his home Wednesday afternoon after a two year illness that followed typhoid fever. He was a longtime Ingle Supply Company director, bank and building loan official, and a devoted Methodist and Mason. Survant married Flora Bethell in 1898. one child died in infancy. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 PM at his residence.

Death of Clay township farmer David Shawhan

David Shawhan, a prominent Clay township farmer, died Tuesday at his father's home after a long illness from carcinoma of the face. He was 59 years three months and four days old. Survived by his wife, son Letta Shawhan of near Union, and his 91-year-old father. A Meth­odist for years, funeral services by Rev. Oskings of Union M E Church at Mt Zion were held Wednesday at 9 a.m. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery.

Miss Lennie Hunt of Gibson County and Earl Johnson of Pike County were married Thursday at 3 PM in Princeton by Rev. Clarence Flynn. The couple, accompanied by Hazel Johnson and Harold Ropp, plan further studies at Oakland City College for six weeks and may enroll elsewhere in the fall.

Vincennes Fish Merchant Drowns Self in White River

Luther Benton a 45 year old fish merchant from Vincennes tied a fifteen pound rock to his neck and leaped from a log into White River at Cockram's Ferry near Petersburg. He was seen by witnesses but drowned before rescue. his body later taken to Vincennes for burial.

Boy Injured When Runaway Disc Harrow Slams Into Him

Eleven year old Frank Crecelius of Logan Township was dragged by a frightened team as it ran toward the house. The disc harrow cut the bridge of his nose and deep gashes along his left face and leg. Doctors Ropp and Smith treated the wounds with stitches. The 14 year old hero warned and diverted danger, likely saving others from injury.
