A deputy state oil and gas inspector visited the Gross well and advised separating oil from water to test for production. The Bement, Emery, and Michael Murphy companies report deepening wells on multiple farms, with rigs moving between leases. Indications point to major development in early spring if oil prices stay high.
A lively Minstrel Show at the Opera House Tuesday night drew a large audience despite bad weather, with strong performances by Owen McCormick and Berenice Farmer and a humorous courtroom scene earning applause. The event was praised for good music and polished acting, though some attendees were deterred by the rain.
The Braden Harness Co of Petersburg Indiana sends Christmas and New Year greetings for 1915. They thank loyal customers for support and note a strong harvest season predicting better business in 1916 with emphasis on devotion to customers and continued success. Rev Edwyn H Boldrey officiated the marriage of Harry Hill and Treeva Howard in Hill-Howard. The couple, from the Alford neighborhood, are described as promising a happy prosperous future with many friends sending best wishes.
The Young People of the Methodist church host a Watch Night concert Friday at 7 30 p m under Epworth League auspices. A free will offering supports the piano fund. The program features organ, piano solos, duets, vocal numbers and a male quartet with works by Gottschalk Parlow Chopin and others.
Mr and Mrs W F Rodimel hosted a large Sunday dinner at their new West Main Street residence with relatives from Oakland City Bicknell and local guests. The gathering enjoyed plentiful food and extended wishes for a prosperous New Year in their new home.
Frank Elkins brought petrified wood specimens from his big stone quarry east of Petersburg to The Press. Pieces include blocks and small branches preserved in rock form. The Elkins quarry has supplied thousands of yards of stone for Jefferson township roads since work began.
Mine Rescue Car Number Three of the Bureau of Mines will be at Ayrshire next Monday January srd with G T Powell and W W Fleming in charge. An open meeting on Safety in Mining and First Aid is at Star Theatre Winslow with talks by Powell and Dr Knoefel. Moving pictures of mining will be shown. the car stays about two weeks and miners are urged to attend.
Petersburg marks the annual week of prayer with a union service at the Baptist church starting Monday January 3 at 7 pm. Topics include the value of the church, winning men to Christ, intercessory meeting, Christian stewardship, and making Christianity attractive with leaders Boldrey Cohn and Rogers guiding each session.
Friday evening B Y P A hosts a watch party 7 30 to 12 30 at the home of Mr and Mrs Floyd Benjamin. Sunday services proceed with Brother Otho Almon preaching while Brother Colin is away. Marve and Mrs Radcliff travel to Florida for about six weeks for health and fishing. Charley Wyatt trades farms near Washington for a 257 acre Daviess county property to run as a stock farm. Safron Bros install a soda fountain at the Greek Candy Kitchen.

The verse expresses love for Dakota, longing for home, and admiration of westward toil, with named local readers in Pike County. Also notes hog cholera concerns and farm chatter from the county.
