Coal Strike Ends After Conference Agreement

The long coal strike ending April 1 has concluded after a conference of Mine Workers officials and operators controlling about sixty million tons per year. The pact keeps the existing wage scale and hours, reestablishes the check-off, and runs to March 31, 1923. Aims include preventing future strikes and ensuring many mines resume operations promptly, with a Cleveland conference outlining wage scale negotiations and a committee of inquiry to study industry conditions.

Petersburg Chautauqua Opens With Wide Local Interest

The Petersburg Chautauqua opened at Lincoln Theatre with a capacity crowd. Jail Break For Wine Probed After Loss Of Evidence

Needle Removed From Mrs Gladish Hand Aims X-ray

Mrs Herschel Gladish sought hospital care in Evansville Tuesday after pricking her right hand with a needle while washing on August fourth. The needle’s point broke off and remains embedded despite attempts to remove it. Local doctors cannot locate it, and X-ray imaging is expected to assist.

About 120 relatives neighbors and friends gathered at Henry McCoy’s home two miles west of Stendal on Sunday August 6 1922 to honor Polly Ann McCoy her eighty something birthday. Henry McCoy 82 Civil War veteran and aunt Tena Ingram were among the older guests. Dinner served at 1130 featured nineteen bit cakes and various eats. Son Denver McCoy from Oklahoma attended others missing included Perry McCoy in Tr nn e Oklahoma and Mrs Emma Coleman in the West.

Miner Fractures Leg In Mine Accident Near Oakland City

John Jones owner and manager of Klondyke Coal Mine in Patoka township four miles east of Oakland City suffered a serious accident Saturday when falling slate fractured his lower limb and sprained his ankle. Friends hope for a speedy recovery. Also visiting relatives include Mr. and Mrs. Percel Hender of East St. Louis with daughters Geneva Carter Ruth Cross and granddaughter Helen Deloris Carter, plus Mrs. Lillie Chaney and son Ferdinand of Washington visiting Mrs. Josiah Colvin.
