Wan was arrested today on the charge of selling liquor to Jas Mayo, a minor, at a tender location on Ole street. He was bailed for $200 on appeal before the Police Court.
Mr. Littleton James Duell died last evening at 7 at his Blandford residence. In his 83rd year, he had suffered years of ill health and was confined at home only days. An ex Confederate soldier, he served in the 53d Virginia Regiment Army of Northern Virginia Longstreet’s division. He belonged to Washington Street M E church and is survived by one son Leonard, one brother T H Duell of Richmond, and four grandsons Wkt Inc 2 Richard W and Arthur E Duell of Petersburg. Funeral notice appears in another column.
Two fires were reported yesterday. One from the Clary warehouse on Second Street where hay stored in 200 tons burned again, stopped by the department, with damaged bales being moved today. The second alarm came from Pocahontas due to a roof fire at Henshaw's store.
In Poage Court several individuals including Ada Green Robt Slason and Yan Eugene Jessup were fined for violations of city ordinances. Fines ranged from 2.50 to 5.00 dollars and several defendants remained in jail.
Henry Have Falls died after a fall in a factory on Old Market Street. Robert, his brother and a watchman, admitted him for warmth. During rounds Henry was missing, later found at the bottom of a shaft. Coroner Leich ordered an inquest. death attributed to accidental injuries from the fall.
Mrs. Annie Lee Bland wife of D Nelson Bland died yesterday morning at her mother Mrs Nimmie on Main Road Ettrick after a long illness. She was about 29 years old and resided in Ettrick. The funeral is set for tomorrow afternoon at Ettick Church with interment in Ettick Cemetery.
February term begins in the Chester Court with two docketed cases. One cases questions citizen status of a party connected to a motor incident on the Richmond Turnpike. Willcox and Will counsel for Mr Ko mame.
A man identified as Leste Lewis of Petersburg Virginia attacked his head against a wall at Union Station in Washington. Police restrained him and he was taken to the Sixth Precinct Station before being sent to the Washington Asylum Hospital for observation. Relatives in Virginia were notified.
A Hastings Court grand jury in June indicted two Appomattox Trust Company officials on embezzlement charges. The case, long drawn out, produced extensive records and papers but ended as a distant memory with the court and jury having retired.
Yesterday from the Jensen in Matucac and was very attended. The service led by pastor E. church, with pallbearers identified as W. Bolt, Hall, Knowles, Simmons, and James Phillips. Burial in Stateaca cemetery.
PPAG to attend SAnch lodges in to the Temple of sters. Worship in Washington Street M. E. next Sunday night. The pastor Rev. George FE. Booker will preach a special sermon on the occasion.
A colored mail carrier on the Prince 2 Courthouse route in Spring County was removed from duty Saturday after intoxication and violence at the postal house. Multiple units responded. authorities reported a disruption of the usual delivery along the route.
My W J Brown of ache mond visited the city. Mr HH Claiborne Willson collector of Cuctains attended the eighth annual banquet of the League of Republican State Clubs in Washington at the New Willard Hotel. After the trial of Charles Hail Davis, the jury gave City Sergeant Ino B Evans a $5 hat for courtesy. Rev Thos R English preached at Second Presbyterian in pastor absence. Rev J A McChure, Henderson NC, will preach next Sunday before deciding on a call. W M and J A Ruckery of Rucker Dry Goods left for New York for business. W H Cralle of Pittsburgh visits Chesterfield Hotel. No standing room tickets tonight at the Academy. Evangelistic meetings begin at Gospel hall led by Mr Meier of Scotland. Harbor frozen solid with ships trapped in ice.
The Valentine party planned for tomorrow night at Miss Bessie Edwards residence on Old Church street for Blandford M E church building fund has been postponed until one night next week.
The body of Mr. Henry Lucas formerly of Prince George County who died suddenly at his South Carolina home was brought to Petersburg for funeral services held this afternoon at 2 oclock at Blandford Cemetery. The Rev Charles R Stripling pastor of Table Street Presbyterian Church officiated.
Mr. Geo. W. Williams, a Prince George county resident and son of W. R. Williams, underwent an appendicitis operation at Petersburg Hospital. Surgeons Haine and Hoss Williams performed the procedure and reported a favorable outlook for a swift recovery.
The Board of Supervisors of Prince George County met to discuss good roads. Secretary Martin of the Chamber of Commerce attended to urge road improvements. The outcome of the meeting was not learned in time for this edition.
Mrs Beasley a respected elderly married woman died this morning at her Commerce Street home. She had worked hard to save enough money for a home and was well known across the West with many friends.
The funeral of the late Wm. IAE Spain occurred yesterday at 3 o clock from the residence of his daughter Mr Ledbetter on Liberty. Rev. Dr. Geo. i. Baok, assisted by Rev. Geo. £ 1. Spooner, officiated. Pallbearers included Messrs. Wm. KE. Ramey, Wm. E. Moore, Thos. C. B. J.D. Mann, F. MM. D Alton, W. W. Brister, E. A. Edmunds, and J. Clements. The body rests in the Blandford cemetery family plot.
The Petersburg Enterprise publishes its first weekly issue devoted to material and industrial development of the Negro race. It is issued by Enterprise Publishing Company with A W Harris as president W D Mitchel secretary and A B Mackey general manager. the paper features Petersburg merchants ads and is recommended to readers of progress.
The Knights of Py met Friday and elected officers for Uniform Bank Company No. 16 with V. Parham as First Lieutenant J. S. Woodall as Second Lieutenant George A. Bowman as Recorder John F. Crowder as Treasurer I F Smith. In December 1910 a great fire destroyed the company uniforms and regalia. most have since recovered losses.
Secretary Knox plans an itinerary shift to include Havana San Domingo Haiti and Central American capitals with a possible stop in Mexico ahead of a Panama Canal inspection voyage. The State Department notes US policy to prevent European interference and underscores Mexico’s alignment with the United States. Knox sails from Florida to Colon then up the Central American coast aboard the cruiser Washington and Maryland.
Baltimore February 11. Warden Weyler urged Maryland legislators to replace hanging with chloroform as a painless alternative for capital punishment. He said execution could be administered in the condemned cell without spectacle, while a concurrent bill seeks electrocution with penitentiary placement for the act.

Charles Timmings, a respected carpenter, died suddenly Saturday afternoon at his Halifax Street home after a severe hemorrhage. He was downtown earlier and collapsed at home before a physician could arrive. He is survived by his wife and several children.
