The war office informs the American Embassy that no person may communicate face to face with Japanese prisoners at Medvid village in Novgorod province without imperial sanction. The Japanese Minister in Berlin has been notified, and the embassy will follow his wishes. If he requests permission it will be sought.
In New York the vice chancellor heard arguments on returning a writ of habeas corpus by Frederick W. Collins of Hoboken to gain possession of his two sons Edward ten and Charles eight from their Washington, D. C., grandparents John and Margaret Washburn. The Washburns kept the boys after their mother Mary Washburn Collins died in January 1903 claiming custody. The judge ordered the grandparents to continue custody while evidence is heard in January. A free concert by Victor Graphophone at Kent's runs daily 3:30 to 6:20 a. m.
The concluding Jubilee service for Rev J T O Farrell's twenty five years in the priesthood was held at St Josephs Catholic church at 10 this morning. The high mass was led by Rev O Farrell with deacon Rev Lynch and sub deacon Rev Bowler. A Jubilee sermon by Rev J B O Reilly praised the jubilarian. The choir performed Peters Mass from the first mass 25 years ago. Many clerics attended and were later entertained at the parochial residence. An afternoon program at St Josephs Academy concluded the celebration.
Perry Daniels, colored, felony, sent on to Hastings court. Waverly Carter, colored, violation city ordinance, continued. Jas. Hill, colored, assault and battery, discharged. Jas. Beach, misdemeanor, fined 25 dollars and bond 100 dollars for twelve months, jailed in default.
Huntington authorities in Logan county arrest Fred Stratton for the murder of 18 year old Rosa White of Crawley’s Creek. Autopsy suggests she was to become a mother. weapon with Stratton’s initials found near the body. Rosa disappeared Friday night. body found next morning beside an unused road. skull crushed and throat cut. Stratton jailed in Logan, likely to be moved for safekeeping.
To engage strictly in wholesale business next year the retailer offers the entire retail stock at cost beginning today with cash sales only. Great bar gains advertised as goods sold for cash.
J W Thomas and Company at 43 Sycamore Street announces a graphophone sale or demonstration at Kent's Daily between 3 30 and 6 30 p m.
James Beach, a young white man, faced the mayor for a misdemeanor after loudly banging Judge Hinton's front door on Bolling Brook Street, cursing the judge. He claimed to recall being in Blandford that night but nothing else. The mayor fined $25 and set a $100 bond for twelve months, or he'd be jailed.
News from McWilliams Wilcox county reports a double homicide. James Andrews and his wife, Mrs. Andrews, were killed in their home with Mrs. Andrews found on the bed with her throat cut and Andrews shot dead on the floor. The case stems from a disputed deed to a farm and a long simmering family quarrel.
Bears edged an evenly matched game 92 to 89 at home as star guard Johnson led with 28 points and forward Lee added 22. Coach Turner praised late defense and expressed relief after a tense fourth quarter.
Five prisoners escaped from the Halifax county jail after breaking a steel cage with a sewer pipe. Jailor George Stephenson narrowly avoided serious harm when four inmates overpowered him as they burst into the corridor and fled. none captured yet but expected to be recaptured soon. Dinwiddie Circuit Court under Judge Watson convicted two young Negroes of breaking into a saw mill commissary. Each received four years in the penitentiary. An advertisement for Lockets and Chains by E. H. Titmus and shoes by Harrison Co.
Dr B F Iden offered resignation to Judge C E Nicol after a board dispute in Prince William County Virginia and the resignation was accepted He said he was mistaken in removing quarantine flags displayed by a majority of the board in front of the Fisher and Muddiman residences stating he was angry at the time.
Roanoke Virginia news reports Henry Iinnay, a black murderer, escaped last night from Deputy Sheriff George Ash of Caperton West Virginia near Glen Wilton by leaping from a moving train while handcuffed. He had been arrested here and was to be taken away yesterday afternoon by the deputy sheriff.
Tokio reports praise for Gen. Samejima the fort attack hero who inspired his troops and turned a near disaster into a victory. He is a veteran engineer and fortifications expert formerly garrison commander and rumored replacement for Gen. Tsuchiya as division commander. Telegram from Nogi HQ says the north fort of East Kekwan Mountain was blown open at 2:15 pm December 18 with hand grenades and heavy fighting followed. Our forces occupied the fort by 11:50 pm after a last brave charge and began defensive works. The enemy detonated four mines and left forty or fifty dead. our casualties are not yet known.
Three women claiming British nationality and refinement are jailed in Winchester serving four month vagrancy sentences. They hired a lawyer and plan to petition the British Embassy, naming Mrs. Sarah Angell and daughters Elizabeth and Lillie Angell. They say they have a pending damage suit against New York's Metropolitan Street Railway and have asked Mayor Baker for housing and support until aid is secured.
In Boyton Virginia two elderly men named Sam Baker and Horace Goode died last night in the same house adding a remarkable coincidence to a quiet community. Both were aged colored men and residents of the area, with no immediate indication of cause at press time. Local authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
