Social Security Tax Rules For Farmers In 1956
Farmers with net earnings of 400 dollars or more must file self employment tax returns. Filing does not always mean income tax, but social security tax can apply. A return is filed after the taxable year ends, with most farmers ending year on December 11. Farmers with net farming profit of 400 or more must pay social security tax. A special method for computing net earnings for social security exists. Those grossing 1800 or less in a year ending December 31, 1956 or later may report two thirds of gross even if net profit is under 400. Those on a calendar year basis may use this option for 1956.
