The Peru Observer issues weekly editions priced at one dollar twenty five cents in advance or one dollar fifty cents otherwise. Advertising rates include a 12 line square for three insertions at one dollar, two months for two fifty, three months for three, six months for five, and twelve months for eight dollars. Seasonal discounts apply to merchants advertising by the year.
The Southern mail reports Mexico’s revolution end of Santa Anna era and the rise of a new constitutional government led by Gen Herrera. Distrurbances were peaceful, with Congress and garrison opposing the tyrant as Puebla rose against Canalizo and the Palace.
Edmund Mahone, aged about 23 to 25, was killed by his father Blanks Mahone at the dinner table during a family dispute on Christmas day in Madison near Lynchburg. The father is jailed in Amherst awaiting trial.
The Hartford Times recounts a fireman’s brave act at a Rhymney furnace where a child slipped into the blaze. The father dives after, saves the boy but is burned and collapses, later carried home in a perilous condition.
The Wheeling Times reports Mr. Clay’s postage last year did not fall below $10,000 due to daily letter flow. Albany plans a Kid Salvage Company with 1000 shares at $100 to salvage pirate Kidd’s sunken vessel. A cofferdam 210 feet from shore works with 50 men, set to power a steam pump on the 15th. The note also cites 192,000 bushels of wheat stored across Chicago St Joseph Racine Milwaukee and a Hamilton widow at 90 in Washington, plus NC legislature considering a state penitentiary and US tea consumption at five million pounds.
