Mark Meriden the open handed bachelor turned husband
The tale follows Mark Meriden a fashionable shop owner who marries a pretty wife after resisting social temptations led by Ben Sandford. Mark keeps a running expense book noting every frivolous outing and gift, then uses the ledger to propose marriage and secure Emily’s future with Mrs Meriden. Ben, a carefree lawyer, improves his life after Mark’s financial honesty helps him settle old scores and plan a stable home.
