Senate and House Action on Reports and Memorials 1839

IOWA EXPEDITION REPORTS BOUNDARY LEAD DISCOVERY

Dr. David Dale Owen and 140 assistants surveyed an 11000 square mile district along both sides of the Mississippi from Rock River to near Prairie du Chien. Sixteen new lead discoveries, rich deposits, and a vast mineral collection were documented, with field work ending November 23 and a severe snowstorm the next day. The findings promise high government value and further reports from Dr. Owen.

Grand New Orleans Lottery Seeks Adventurers in 1810

The Grand Real Estate and Stock Lotteries of New Orleans begin depositing numbers and prizes for the Second Class on January 6, 1810, with a promised drawing within a month. The scheme promises two million five hundred thousand dollars in prizes led by large New Orleans real estate capitals and rents, tickets priced at $50 with no shares. Orders urged to John M. Clarke of Wheeling, Va., as agent, with March 1 deadline.
