Savage Morgan and the Indian Attack at Martin's Fort
In 1778 or 1779 at Martin's Fort on the Monongahela near Morgantown, Captain David Morgan and two attacking Indians fought a brutal clash. Morgan killed one, lost a finger, scalped both enemies, and skinned them to make drumheads and straps after restoring aid at the fort. Colonel Clark is noted as learning of this confrontation.
