In New York on September 21 Mrs Margaret Carter shot banker John Jay White in his library after ten hours at his residence 103 East Thirty-seventh Street intending to kill herself or him. Carter, benefactor of animal welfare groups, had been ill and previously resisted surgery. Mrs White called it a mystery after learning of the tragedy.

Car Hits Truck on Goodwin Street Injuring Charles Jacobson
Charles Jacobson a wagon driver for James Henderson was severely injured when his wagon was struck by trolley car 1167 near Smith and Goodwin streets around 11 PM. He was taken home after Dr. F C Henry said injuries were not fatal. The wagon remained at the scene while the trolley company and authorities assessed responsibility. Jacobson was hauling vaseline from Cheese Brook works to the New York and New Jersey steamboat dock amid the Central railroad bridge being out of order.

Goodwill fife and drum corps held its annual trolley ride around the loop last night. They started from Smith street at 7 30 with one car. a second car was filled as the crowd grew. Trolley Cars Leave Tracks In Smith and State Streets
East end of the switch at Smith and State streets was out of order causing trolley car disruptions. A double trucker ran off the track near Y P Therkelson & Son’s grocery, and trolley car 1109 left the rails at 6:45 pm, blocking traffic for about 30 minutes. Crews attempted repairs until a wrecking car arrived. Traffic east of State street was briefly suspended and vehicles from New Brunswick and Metuchen detoured via Market Street to the ferry.
