Petro Starciak was arrested at 65 South First Street after kicking Patrolman Andrew Jensen in the abdomen and then kicking him from the patrol wagon seat. Starciak, intoxicated and described as dangerous when drunk, threatened a saloonkeeper and was fined about 25 dollars by Recorder Pickersgill before being returned to his cell.

Second Band Concert Planned in City Hall Park
Plans are advanced for a second band concert in City Hall Park on Thursday night. Albert Bollschweiler of the Union Band has secured sufficient funds, plus leftover from the first concert, to cover costs. Junkmen Arrested Over License Violations In City

Miracle escape as runaway horses pull truck past rider
At about 4:30 yesterday afternoon a team of horses pulling a piano on a truck frightened and bolted from Ludwig's Music, down Smith street toward the Central railroad. John Gardell leapt aboard, fell, and narrowly avoided being crushed as the wheels passed a handsbreadth away. He escaped with bruises while the piano and a Jersey Loading Company barricade suffered minor damage before the horses were halted near Elm street.

Increase in public school enrollment reported
3,718 pupils are enrolled in public schools today, up 259 from 3,459 last year. High school enrollment rises as 222 pupils are in, up 31 with 30 more expected. Baby Falls From Window Killing On Baldwin Street

Vote on Police Pay Rise Requires Full Council Vote
Plainfield council faces hurdle as state act requires a majority of all aldermen to place the police pay increase on ballots. At a recent meeting only five members were present and a 3 to 2 vote was rendered, but with seven on the board the measure must win four votes. City Attorney Hommann says prior action void. the proposal may return for early consideration. The act provides that ballots must show for or against the increase and allows borrowing to cover the rise if needed. The new pay schedule starts December 1 and targets ranks from patrolmen to sergeants with stepped increases.
