Perth Amboy K O T M plans a large ball at Washington Hall on Friday night October 19 with an active arrange ment committee led by J J Flynn and including Peter J Smith John J Burns Louis Lonseth Edward Callahan John Blow and Rudolph Schuck. Local notices report numerous society events and residents’ comings and goings.
American Smelting and Refining Company reports 11.67 million in earnings for the year, up 1.16 million from last year, with net earnings of 10.16 million and a surplus of 2.02 million after dividends and allocations. Dividends total 6.75 million, split 3.5 million on preferred and 8.25 million on common stock. Directors reelected at the seventh annual meeting in Jersey City.
Dunellen marshals fifty willing North Dakota ranchers to marry Dunellen’s aging, single women. John Rinacker of Perry, North Dakota offers fifty men and $50 to cover expenses to select a Dunellen bride. Mayor Wyckoff weighs options as he receives the unusual proposal from the rancher writer.

North, and Marshall S. Collingwood face conspiracy, embezzlement, false returns, and perjury charges. Segal bail set at 25000, others 1000. Magistrate Kochersperger schedules bail hearing. Browning filed the affidavit. President Hipple’s final remark blames Segal for the theft.
The state board of equalization fixed a schedule to hear over 300 tax appeals county by county. 113 appeals are set for September 18 at the state house, with Atlantic City 21 on September 14 and Camden 33 on September 17, Newark 76 on September 19, Jersey City 30 on September 20, and Morristown 79 on September 21. The process aims to finalize decisions quickly so counties receive school funds.
Jersey City corporation counsel George L. Record denied charges by State Senator Thomas Hillery that he sought railroad help for the Colby-Fagan movement. He said he urged railroads to accept local taxation under the Arrowsmith bill and to avoid legislative control. Record also noted a message from Senator La Follette confirming a New Jersey tour to support his candidacy for the U S Senate.

Thirty-two pupils and one new applicant took examinations at the high school this morning to free themselves from conditions in various subjects. Some entrants will join the freshman class from the eighth grade or from other schools. Additional county pupils will enter with certificates. Seventh graders conditioned for eighth grade entry will be examined tomorrow.
Plainfield September 6 Republican nominees to be chosen at a mass meeting at the Casino Monday night for city offices and delegates. A 125 member advisory committee will name candidates ahead of the September 25 primaries, with former Mayor Alexander Gilbert leading the panel. Rumor says Charles Joel Fiske will be the mayoral candidate for the regulars.

Post office timetable taking effect May 7 1900 shows daily mails to New York Western and Southern regions with Rahway Woodbridge Fords and Bayonne connections, plus routes to South Jersey North Jersey New York and Northern Way. Sunday hours extend service with department open 7 a m to 7 p m and carrier window hours until 5 00 p m.
Effective January 28 1905 trains depart Rahway Junction for Rahway Reformatory every 30 minutes from 5 10 am to 11 40 pm. Connections available at Rahway Junction for New Brunswick and for Sewaren Woodbridge Rahway Westfield with specific departures each hour. Departures from New Brunswick at 6 45 am and hourly to 8 45 pm connect to cars toward Sewaren Woodbridge Rahway and Westfield. Perth Amboy ferry departures begin 5 57 am and run hourly to 9 57 pm with 10 pm and 11 42 pm connections toward Woodbridge Rahway and Westfield.
