The Met Athletic Club plans a first annual ball and reception at Hotel Martin on Monday April 17 with Prof. Theodore leading an eight piece orchestra. The event aims to be the Highlands premier social feature.
Health Officer Dr. O W Budlong reports quarantines on three cases of diphtheria within the Middletown Township area one at Highlands and two at Brevent Park. Other notices include illness cases in Perth Amboy Port Monmouth and Garfield Memorial Hospital admissions with family members mentioned.
About one hundred people attended a euchre night at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. P. Sondergaard in Keyport. The Keyport Literary Club hosted the event, its second such affair, with proceeds benefiting the clubhouse fund. Prizes included a jardiniere for Miss Mabel Brown, a chop dish for Mrs. Albert M. Haugh, a box of cigars for ASBURY Campbell, and a pocket knife for Aaron S. Van Buskirk. Refreshments followed the card play.
Keyport on March 20 hosts a bit smoker by the Independent Democratic Club in First street rooms. Notable speakers include Congressman Thomas J. Scully, with other speakers expected to attend.

Special to the Evening News Keyport March 30 Mrs Joseph Mauer entertained the Ladies Euchre at her home Tuesday evening. First prize a centrepiece was won by Mrs J Mauer and second prize a silk cushion went to Mrs William Mauer. Refreshments and a social hour followed.
Surf Theatre offers 4000 feet of pictures each performance every evening at 7 15 p m. Matinees daily at 1 15 p m and Saturdays at 2 30 p m. Evening admission is 10 cents and children’s matinees cost 5 cents. The ad invites readers to go to the Surf to be in the swim.
Washington reports Representative James R. Mann of Illinois chosen as minority leader after a conference of Mann supporters and Speaker Cannon. Unclear whether Uncle Joe would run, but his friends pledged to back him if he did.

A public hearing at Val entine's Old Homestead Hotel in Prince Bay yesterday discussed deepening Lemon creek to four to five feet at low tide. Col William T. Russell and a six engineer board of the Army Corps heard statements from supporters including Congressman Riordan and local business figures. no opposition was voiced. The board asked for briefs within two weeks and will rule within ten days, aiming to extend the channel about 400 feet if ordered.
A Tuesday pig roast at the A M H Zion Church on Sandy Ground Bloomingdale Avenue drew many attendees. Stephen Davis directed the chef prepared menu and the evening featured local and instrumental music by church youth, raising a sizable sum for the church.

A noon alarm from box 36 sent 101 Hook and Ladder and 201 Engine to a rear of St Pauls church parsonage Amboy Ave. They reached in two minutes thirty one seconds. Battalion Chief Root rode on the apparatus. The shed fire caused excitement but did no damage. Driver Cronon praised for rapid response.
The Staten Island Council of Clubs organized in 1907 aims to link all local clubs in mutual helpfulness. Membership depends on club size with dues of 2 dollars for clubs over thirty and 1 dollar for smaller groups. Officers include Mrs. J. Q. Adams as president and Mrs. W. W. Whitford as secretary. The executive committee plus several club representatives total seven additional members. The council lists about 1,100 members across numerous clubs and plans an all day fall meeting with reports and club activities scheduled for the afternoon entertainment.
The Staten Island Driving Club plans a social reunion banquet for old time horsemen at St George Island on April 12. Tickets are 3.50. Club officers include Jacob I.
