Special to the Evening News New Brunswick March 3 After four hours of jury indecision the manslaughter trial of Cripple Jack Henry Thomas ended in a hung verdict at 8 30 pm The twelve jurors had stood eleven to one for acquittal since 4 30 pm John Forman is accused of tying up the jury with prejudgment The defense contended self defense and Bahmer died from five deep knife wounds after a Burnet street scuffle in which Cripple Jack drew a knife and Bahmer died hours later at St Peter s hospital The accused, a stranger to New Brunswick, surrendered after Bahmer s death and faced the charge following the street brawl on October 23 last year
