District Deputy Grand Master John Shoe and staff from Lawrence Lodge No. 62 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows installed Elizabethport Lodge officers in Elizabethport last night. A reception and collation followed. Tonight the delegation will install officers of Queen City Lodge in Plainfield.

The Rev. John Joseph Rice of St. Peter's Northbridge Massachusetts has been named bishop of the Burlington Diocese Vermont. At thirty eight he is the youngest bishop in years, with a career including pastorates in Portland Maine Fitchburg Pittsfield Oxford and a philosophy professorship at St John's Seminary Brighton. He graduated Holy Cross 1891 and Montreal seminary 1894 and served as first pastor of St. Peter's since 1808. An Old Time Advertisement notes a 1785 London Chronicle runaway apprenticeship notice for Thomas Williams with legal actions for harboring him.
The Middlesex County Board for the Equalization of Taxes met in Metuchen at 9 20 this morning to hear appeals against the borough and fix dates for hearings in other county districts. Seventeen Metuchen appeals were presented for consideration as of this afternoon. The board will proceed in Woodbridge later today to hear fifteen appeals against the township.
Bijou Theatre will continue the Idania Troupe of lady gymnasts at the head of the bill for the rest of the week after a new price scale goes into effect tomorrow. The show promises strong attractions including Percival Shaw and Sherman in His Father's Choice, Harry Waiman violin novelty, Warren and Goodwin songs, the Reid Sisters with acrobatic dances, and new Bijougraph pictures.
Superintendent A H Crowell of the water department warns property owners to protect interior water meters from freezing.
