Diver Locates Reel of Wire From Staten Island Sound
A Merritt-Chapman diver working for the New York and New Jersey Steamboat Company located a large reel of copper wire from the bottom near the Staten Island shore. The reel, belonging to Standard Underground Cable Company, was found at about 28 feet deep after the diver arrived about 8 o'clock. A crane crew assisted as the wire hoisted, despite a wire breaking during retrieval, and the reel was moved to the cable works on Washington street. A crowd gathered to watch the operation.
