In Trenton on April 6 Fredus A Proctor Jr born in Asbury Park in 1882 renounced his American citizenship in a brief letter to Governor Fort. The self described legally born son of Fredus A Proctor and Miami Proctor states he is free of obligations and renounces allegiance and birth rights. His parents at Belmar NJ cannot explain the act. Praetor sailed for Trinidad last Saturday. he is an electrical engineer.
Representatives from every West Virginia coal district met in Washington and adopted resolutions urging congress to block any law that would allow free duty free import of Canadian coal. They warn such free entry would injure the state’s coal industry and force many mines to close.
Washington April 6 The Republic and leaders in the senate celebrate news that the house adopted a rule closing debate on the Payne tariff bill. Senator Aldrich predicts quick conference report passage and possible presidential hand by June 1. The house sets a three and a half day window to pass it with votes on tea coffee hides lumber barley oil and related duties. The ruling limits debate and aims to secure free lumber and hides while maintaining protection on other items. The move shifts to a 12 o'clock session and includes amendments by committee and by the house.

McRae Georgia April 6 another murder in the long running Dodge land litigation. Pope H Hill a Macon lawyer acting for New York clients was shot after purchasing a pistol and entering the Dodge Land company office. A struggle left Hill dead with a bullet to the brain. An anonymous note warned of further trouble. The Dodge feud has a history dating to 1891 with several deaths and many wounded as squatters inhabit about 400000 acres across South Georgia.
Sheriff George W Payne of Cumberland county petitions the New Jersey house to impeach Judge Royal P Puller of the common pleas court alleging he substituted his own list for the sheriff s juror list The petition goes to the judiciary committee Also notes a horse that slept for two weeks and a weather forecast of cloudy warmer conditions with moderate south winds
In Lyons New York on April 12 twelve jurors enter the murder trial of Mrs Georgia Allyn Sampson wife of Harry Sampson a nephew of Rear Admiral Sampson accused by District Attorney Gilbert of shooting her husband. The courtroom opened with Mrs Sampson in mourning and a jury drawn mainly from Wayne county farmers.
First Officer W T Holmes of the steamer Massachusetts was found negligent for the wreck near Martha's Vineyard. Commander H F Barrett was exonerated of inattention to duty. The ship grounded when the wheelman misunderstood Holmes order and Holmes failed to verify the vessel’s course.
Washington reports that Nicaragua may settle the G D Emery mahogany concession damages case by compromise or arbitration. A special commissioner may depart for Washington with instructions to secure a settlement or sign a protocol for arbitration if no agreement is reached. Diplomacy pressed to avoid further delay.
President Gomez asks Congress to pursue a new commercial treaty with the United States. He urges reducing duties on essential imports to ease the high cost of living and lowering tariffs on machinery, notably agricultural implements, to aid production.
Henry W. Amos, a Buena Vista banker, was killed by his sister in law Mrs. William Campbell after Amos sought reconciliation with his wife. Campbell fired three revolver shots and then a shotgun at close range. Amos was unarmed. The incident occurred as Amos called on his wife following her departure.
Detroit April 6 Republicans swept the state ticket by about seventy thousand majority while twenty of the seventy seven dry counties voted to abolish liquor traffic and seven remained wet. Women flocked to the polls amid a bitter school board battle as eleven of eighty three counties were already dry.
Governor Charles N. Haskell faced a federal court indictment for fraud linked to Muskogee town lot cases. His lawyers moved to quash the indictments, accusing Special Attorney General Bush of grand jury misconduct. Judge Marshall reserved decision as a large Tulsa crowd watched.
Richard Croker the former Tammany chieftain visited the White House and spoke with President Taft in the executive offices for some time. They discussed Croker’s horses including one that recently won the English Derby and exchanged views on golf.
A letter signed Black Hand Society threatening death unless he leaves town was turned over to police by Rev. Vincent Buckeveckas, rector of St. Casimir's. The parish faced financial trouble and a split led to a new church. Buckeveckas will continue leading the parish and ignore the threat.
Governor George L. Lilley of Connecticut is said to be seriously ill from nervous exhaustion. Reports from Hartford on April 6 describe the illness as affecting his nerves, with attention rising to his heart and kidneys. The longtime public official has shown vigor in office, and supporters hope his stamina carries him through the crisis.
George Barton alias Chicago Army, a noted yeggman who escaped Greenville jail with Jake Moore alias Tennessee Dutch, was captured near Craggy after a fierce fight with Deputy Sheriff Rogers. Dutch hacked away with a revolver he wrested from the deputy and fled but Barton was soon caught.
London April 6 The Geographical Society awarded the Victoria Research Medal to Professor Agassiz of Cambridge Massachusetts and a special medal to Lieutenant Ernest H Shackleton who has recently returned from a South Pole expedition.
