New Milwaukee road head after sudden change in leadership

Wier resigned last Saturday after eleven years as president of the Milwaukee road. Albert J. Barling elected to the presidency, with Miller having risen through ranks from second vice president to general manager before his retirement. Barling, long with the Milwaukee road, is praised for familiarity with the system and its workers. The change is seen as favorable for Perry division stops and town development.

Elks to Build New Block This Fall

The Elks have decisively ordered the three story building with a store room on the first floor, lodge room and parlors on the second, and a banquet hall on the third. Construction will start immediately with Joe Courtney in charge of brickwork and Veach as foreman of carpentry under tight dispatch. Edmondson and Graney will occupy the rented store room as soon as possible.

Russell Corner Sold for Three Story Brick Building

The Triangle and Willis Avenue lot once used by W. B. Ball was sold by trustee N. S. Russell to W. B. Brown for 3000. Probate court approval is required before the sale takes effect, with Brown planning a three story brick building next year to beautify the corner.

Heaton Pushes Building On Tennis Court Lot

The house once protected by Geo Heaton on the formerly tennis court lot is under construction. Excavation of the cellar and wall are complete, framing will rise in a few days, and the sizable house will be sold to Engineer Dick Swift once finished.

Veterans Reunion of the 39th Iowa Infantry at Osceola

The annual reunion of the 39th Iowa Infantry is planned in Osceola with Cot. Sth and 6th streets as the venue. Dallas County sent two companies, leaving many survivors in the area. C Carter of Osceola is president, J G Howe of Des Moines is secretary. Also noted is an ad for Rocky Mountain Yea cough syrup priced at 35 cents per bottle.
