Cement Sidewalks Move Through City Meeting
Last Friday night the city passed a resolution to build extensive cement walks across most of the town. The plan covers Second Street from the Milwaukee depot to the St James hotel and Wilkes Avenue to Third, with walks ten feet wide. Construction will be cheap under the ordinance, and property owners have seven years to pay. The estimated tax impact is about two dollars and a half per year for a fifty foot lot, a small price for better sidewalks. The contract is to be awarded September 13.
