Farewell Banquet For Militia Men Held At Mrs Walker

Monday afternoon a farewell banquet was arranged for militia members as they prepared for orders to go to the front. WH Chandler and Henry Miller organized a subscription among local business leaders, funding an elaborate supper at Mrs Walker's. A nearly $30 surplus was added to the company treasury. Tables were decorated with flags and flowers. no speeches were given.

Prisoner Taken After Exciting Chase in Omata burg

Walter J. Kenney was captured by Marshal Willis last Friday after a lively chase. He was transported to Des Moines with papers from the governor and then to Omaha where he faces charges for a theft of money and valuables from his rooming house. He has prior offenses, including a record as an all around clock.

Frank Mann, formerly at Harlow’s, was from Des Moines each Sunday. Mrs J Reiland and son Verne returned from Morris last week and will stay through summer. Floyd Bailey and Charley Walker of Penny came Monday night to go with our band. Charley Warford went to Penny Saturday and returned with Reg Bailey Sunday by boat. Editor Thompson of the Ogden Messenger stopped by after Bayard funeral duties.
