Wisconsin legislation of 1861 authorizes fire companies to elect trustees to manage estate and property, sue and be sued, and grant convey real estate in fee simple within annual limits, with majority company vote authorizing actions. trustees may hold buildings, burying grounds, and other assets, and may erect and repair structures until three thousand dollars yearly value. The act takes effect after passage and publication.
The act amends section 54 of chapter 19 of the Revised Statutes entitled Highways and Bridges and Ferries. It adds the words or opened at the end of the 61st line. The measure takes effect after its passage and approval was dated April 10, 1561.
An 1831 act allows party defendants in assaults or assault and battery cases to testify on their own behalf. It also permits witnesses for the prosecution to testify about the assault and directs juries or judges to render judgment accordingly. The measure promises trial fairness and access to testimony for both sides.
The Sugar River Valley Railroad company is empowered to survey locate and construct a direct route from Madison and Columbus to Portage Wisconsin and to operate the railroad with full rights and privileges as granted by the charter and state acts. Lands granted by Congress will support the project with title vesting after specified completion milestones.
