A traveler’s November expedition from Penticton along the Green Mountain route describes Indian reserves and vast fruit lands, the Nickel Plate Mine near Hedley, and the Hedley Gazette editor Major Megraw explaining ore processing. The trip covers climate, scenery, and evolving settlements, noting Indian land holdings and railway progress into Keremeos and Hedley.
About twenty five to thirty youths met on Tuesday evening to organize a non denominational Young People’s Christian Union. Rev. R W Hibbert was elected President with Miss Dexter and Miss Mackinlay as vice presidents, J I Tupper secretary, Miss F Thompson treasurer. Executive includes representatives from Baptist Nagland Church, I C Harris Presbyterian, Miss Thompson Methodist, Miss Hie. Meetings set for Tuesday 8 pm at the Methodist church focusing on religious and spiritual growth with literary and social development also planned. All young people and interested older members are invited.
Rev Mr Thorpe will conduct Baptist service next Sunday evening in Kelowna. Miss Kirkwood from Winnipeg visited Miss Fowler. Er Lee opened a grocery store on Main Street. Atkins and Colvin from Summerland stayed through Thursday. Galarneau and McKenzie build a seven room house for Mr Huth on Fairview Road. A Literary Society concert with ten cent admission is set for Thursday at Steward's Hall. Miss Denniston returns from Summerland to assist in baking. W R King from Dawson takes over L C Barnes business. Westminster Avenue street improved by Land Co. Presbyterians set January 25 for Burns Nicht dinner. Bachelors’ snaps in home baking advertised. Presbyterian ladies plan sale of work for Wednesday November 27. J H Smith relocates to Cuba. opportunities and climate praised. Arthur Rowe and George Corbishley plan to wire new buildings for electric lighting. estimates available. Richard Russell of Steinwinder Mining reports good showings and spring ore drilling. cyanide plant expansion planned. Ben Baker opens a premier Main Street barber shop with large plate glass window, up to date equipment and elaborate interior.
