Study finds nearly 10 percent of health spending for obesity
A Health Affairs study shows obesity raises per person annual medical costs by about 1400 dollars and obesity related care now consumes 9.1 percent of all medical spending, totaling 147 billion dollars. RTI and government scientists warn that addressing obesity is essential to curb rising health care costs. The analysis covers 1998 to 2006 and notes diabetes as a major cost driver.
