Clallam cop killer dies in prison

Thomas Martin Roberts, serving life without parole for the 2000 murder of Clallam County Deputy Wally Davis, died of apparent natural causes at Monroe Correctional Complex. He was 66 and died around 8 p.m. in an infirmary. Davis’s family, including his pregnant wife Lisa and three children, survived the deputy.

Case against Port Angeles man is dismissed

Clallam County Superior Court dismissed the case against Mario Wayne Hackney 45 of Port Angeles on charges of attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. Prosecutors plan to refile after witnesses are tracked down and located.

Elk herd near Highway 101 draws Sequim photographers

Hopeful wildlife watchers and local photographers converged around U S Highway 101 as Clallam County deputies warned motorists about elk near Keeler Road. The 28 cows and calves, part of the Roosevelt herd, were spotted about 400 yards north of the highway, near Whitefeather Way crossings, drawing visitors from Washington and Alaska to capture images of the grazing herd along the Olympic Discovery Trail.
