Roadside trees removed as safety measure along Kitchen Dick Road
Clallam County PUD crews cut down about 340 poplars planted in the 1970s along Kitchen Dick Road near Old Olympic Highway citing instability and significant root rot. One tree 50 to 60 feet tall toppled in a Dec. storm, snapping a power line and cutting service to about 10,000 customers. The trees served as a windbreak for Weyerhaeuser Sequim Seed Orchard, a Nursery for Douglas firs used in replanting timberlands.

Webster's Woods to reopen by February first

Fire at DNA complex in Forks ruled undetermined
A Jan. 2 blaze at the Department of Natural Resources Olympic Region complex in Forks caused 7,400 square feet of damage with origin inside a two story building. Investigators could not determine the cause after digging to the concrete and see no signs of arson. Demolition will start next week.
