Thousands witnessed events at Round-Up Park as day two closed with final results across rodeo and bucking contests. Winners included Cowpany Hace and Kurt Daze in early events, Ed Crow and Charley Van Irelt placing high, with two-day totals posted for multiple riders and horses. Remaining notes list winners in saddle bronc, pony race, pony express, stage coach, and starling cowboy categories with times and placements.
Increased attendance on day two of the Frontier Show features ten contests and a packed crowd. Morning events include Tollesw Steer Roping with Art Acord and Chester Byrds. Jason Stanley 1:09 1-6 time. J & Culkins team bulldogging. numerous riders in the Bucking Contest on Whirlwind and other mounts. Roy Garoutte wins Catch Saddle and Hide. Braden Gerting second, Ben Jory third.
Huge crowds fill Pendleton as second Round-Up day delivers wild horse races rodeos and a grand parade. Dick Parker fractures a toe after a horse steps on him while Tex McCleod repeats rope feats and Bertha Blancett wins the cowpon y race. Hazel Walker collapses but recovers, while several riders refuse to compete in bucking events.
A schedule for special sleeping cars to leave Pendleton Saturday night has been arranged by the Northern Pacific. Destinations include Spokane at 10 p.m., Tacoma at 10 p.m., and North Yakima at 10 p.m. Officials urge travelers planning to return to make reservations as early as possible.
Hazel Walker substituted for Miss Bila La Zinka who was injured yesterday in the cowgirl relay race this afternoon. Tillie Haldwin was expected to ride for Miss Jat Alka, but the plan changed at the last moment.
The event features Waving Louse and Henry Vos in bull and cow riding with riders disposed after brief jumps. Rita Aughey places second in the Cowgirls Relay Race. Havel Walker rides for Ella La Zinka to third. Bert Kelley wins Bucking Contest riding Speedball. several riders earn top spots including Art Accord, Braden Gherking, and Jason Stanley. Indian Race results list John Abraham Hirt first and Ed Crowe second.
Willard Tanner received a sentence of one to ten years in the penitentiary and a $2000 fine for Ray Wallace’s death at an Alder street rooming house. Hazel Irwin earlier drew the same prison term and a $20 fine. A special Pendleton to Portland train runs at 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Dozens of businessmen and citizens denounce the fair board for raising admission to the pavilion last night. Will M. Peterson Col H Newport condemn the move as a graft likely to reduce crowds while G L Hurd defends the hike saying daytime entry remains at the old price to cover expenses.
Early reports say Oregon Journal specials from O W R and N and Northern Pacific arrived with the Red Special at 7 30 a m and the Blue Special 15 minutes later. C Jackson owner of the Oregon Journal rode the Red Special and a list of passengers, plus souvenir embroidery, attended the Round-up.
The speaker commended the outdoor entertainment at Pendleton Round-Up thanking organizers for a wholesome spectacle. He lauded cowboys Indians and performers praising bravery color and skill while noting flawless execution and a well behaved 20 000 crowd.
Following General Mena's surrender to President Diaz the Nicaraguan revolt weakens as rebel soldiers flood Managua to lay down arms. Mena says he is willing to be exiled, though no request for departure appears likely.
At roughly 10 AM Letcher Norvell of Helix struck a girl at Main and Alta with his car. She suffered only bruises but police arrested Norvell and set a $260 bond for Monday court. Police praise crowd control as drunks are removed.
Tomorrow morning the Westward Ho parade will be over two miles long with a glittering pageant of cowboys cowgirls and Indians in vivid attire. Floats of frontier life follow in sequence with no expense spared, signaling the passing of the old west. The lineup includes trumpeters John Carrel Will Hanscom John Rovrd flag bearer Glen McCullough cowboy and cowgirl leaders Bert Whitman and Mrs Charles Cole and more.
Secretary of State Boy W Olcott and State Treasurer Tom Kay visit the Round-up management event this afternoon at the park. They will confer on matters relating to the Eastern Oregon branch asylum during their stay.
Election officials in Tacoma Washington report a recount of county judiciary ballots confirms the election of Judges Card and Chapman. The remaining candidates must run again. Roy A. McMillan of the Seattle Times is in town to cover the roundup.
At 6 this morning the Seattle Chamber of Commerce special arrived via Northern Pacific with 75 prominent business leaders. Among them were Col. Alden J. Blethen of the Seattle Times and Scott C. Bone of the Post Intelligencer. The group travels to promote regional benefits with the slogan What benefits the northwest benefits Seattle. The roster lists Joseph Barton W L Bilger J H Biggar Col A J Blethen and others.
