Trial testimony unfolds in McBroom Horseman case

Star witness Don Hicks testified he was about 16 feet from the shooting when Clarence McBroom was killed and that he urged Horseman to quit. Combs testified on the quarrel and threats, saying Horseman warned McBroom he was no match, and McBroom taunted him, with authorities probing the motive as testimony continues.

Attorney General to sue Northern Pacific over demurrage act

Olympia Sept 27 Attorney General J B D Atkinson will start proceedings in Thurston county superior court to enforce penalties under the reciprocal demurrage act for Northern Pacific refusal to furnish cars for a Somerville Brothers lumber shipment to Wallula and Chicago. The penalty under the act is 250 dollars per car denied or not furnished.

Infant Separated on Vancouver Wharf Incident

An infant was left aboard a steamer on the Steanoe Victoria wharf when Mrs. King and her husband, King, rushed to shore. In the rush to board the vessel the baby was forgotten in the cabin. The distraught husband, now exhausted, follows the baby to Vancouver to retrieve the child.

Methodist Delegates Chosen For General Conference

Portland Sept. 27 Delegates to the general conference were elected at the Oregon Methodist convention. Ministerial delegates include J. W. McDougal Albany W. B Hollingshead Portland and B. F Rowland Portland. Laymen delegates are F. R. A Booth Eugene C. D. Minton Salem and B. L. Paget Portland. An elder Booth relative suffered a severe attack. Addresses from superannuated ministers were heard and remarks noted on the education of the young minister.

Senator Fulton Campaigns Through Oregon Fair Visit

United States Senator Charles W. Fulton of Oregon, a leading 1908 candidate, arrives in the district to attend the fair and address the public. He plans a statewide canvass but will remain in Washington during the spring session unless an emergency requires him to return, insisting state interests in Congress outweigh campaign aims. In Los Angeles on September 27 Dr. J Owens was held to the grand jury after a preliminary hearing. The charge of extortion came from J Whyte Evans of Portland.

Belle Waymeier of Joplin Missouri entered Mayor Lane's Hamilton Building office at 5 30 pm to seek a recommendation. She attacked the mayor who cried for relief as two male friends and a janitor intervened. L L Mandeley was arrested as an alleged accomplice after denying involvement. Police have no lead on the woman.

Ford Trial Shifts to Manleck Testimony on Bribe Claim

In San Francisco on September 27 Max Manleck former supervisor testified amid sharp cross examination in the Ford trial. He said he borrowed 1560 from Andrew Wilson and declined to say it came from Gallagher until later recollecting that he had borrowed it to repay Wilson. The session saw wrangling between Rogers and Heney as Judge Lawler intervened. Sanderson testified he backed the overhead trolley project before any payment and did not know about money until receiving Gallagher's envelope.
