Battleship Georgia off Portsmouth Va September 23 Fourteen men on the forward turret narrowly escaped death when the muzzle of a 12 inch rifle burst during fire practice. The men were hurled to the floor and stunned but the turret shield saved them from the falling metal. They were rescued by sailors before fumes overwhelmed the turret. Benson Coming Home. Echo Oregon Sept 22 Special Correspondence reports T B Ellexson arrested in Echo for the murder of Waldo Perry the Union County deputy treasurer. He used the alias Ed Teters and had worked hauling wheat in Baker City and Union. Perry found shot in his hallway with five bullets as his wife and children were away in Portland. Ellexson traced via letters sent Sept 17 to Perry and Mrs Perry. He was being taken to La Grande with deputies.

Two Old Women Robbed In Separate Attacks
In Los Angeles on September 22 two elderly women were assaulted by robbers. Mrs. J Chapman, 55, on an inbound Santa Fe train, was drugged and robbed of about a thousand dollars in cash and jewelry after a downtown cafe incident.
