Fragmented report describes a grand lodge ceremony with formal opening and reception at the Lyceum, featuring grand officers in uniform. Grand Sire Robert Wright arrived ill but expects to preside. outlines a composed program including a Mechanic Pavilion event and a grand reception tonight.
Chris Davison of Kamela was accidentally shot in the left arm while returning home on an open cart during a hunting trip. The accident occurred when the firearm slipped in the cart, the shot shattering the arm between shoulder and elbow. He was transported to Ta Grande by special engine for treatment. George Bedford, Esopus Station flagman, died at 1 AM today from heart disease. Bedford was a longtime Parker supporter.
In Bryan's Landing area four miles from Cairo Illinois, a deadly clash over a craps game left six black men dead and four wounded as white men fired pistols after a rock and club assault. The Levee district, a rough tramp rendezvous, saw rapid police search for leaders of the shooting.
Judge Lowell and delegates Charles Wilkins T G Hailey Stephen A Lowell left for the annual State Irrigation Association meeting in Ontario Oregon. Charles H Wilkins Barday and Gert Muffin will join tonight. Mayor Matlock declined to travel due to prior commitments citing governor appointed status.
Secretary James M. Gwinn of the Oregon Woolgrowers Association sails to Shaniko for the annual gathering. Members will meet tomorrow and Wednesday with routine business expected. Gwinn notes no known state legislation to be presented and that Douglas Betts of Pilot Rock leads the association.

Skipper Hicks and Mike Gratz Jr fired from a lodging house window after a 74 hour spree ending a fight with gambler Tom Shannon. Both are jailed drunk. police recovered a second pistol. Hicks has Oregon prison term for malicious destruction. Gratz allegedly jailed for Chinese murder in Folsom.
J. E. Smith Livestock Co. sells 12,000 Shropshire grade lambs to Sylvester Bros. of the San Luis Valley Colorado for shipment this week. Most are course breeding for the mutton market. Price realized averaged $1.75 per head.
Pendleton public schools opened the morning with a large increase in the number of younger pupils. Officials noted higher enrollment across several grades and prepared additional classrooms to accommodate the surge.
Fears rise that two to three new classrooms will be needed as many new pupils enter the district. Superintendent Conklin and teachers meet at the high school to address congestion since new schoolhouses cannot be ready before year end.
Miss Maymie Wilson a Weston school teacher died at her home yesterday after about four months illness tuberculosis She was 24 turning 25 and had taught six years She graduated from Eastern Oregon State Normal School The funeral was held at her step-father James Turner home Interment followed at Weston cemetery She is survived by her mother step-father and a brother
Aston Barker and WH Irwin of Pocahontas were caught stealing grain at Wingsville and chased to Baker City. Twelve shots were fired before escape. Sheriff Brown and posse pursued. By morning the pair were northwest of Haines in the mountains, believed to be dangerous and well armed.
Louis Hunviker, who returned yesterday from the Knights Templar conclave in San Francisco, visited his wife and daughter in Cloverdale, California. Mrs. Hunviker had been in California for several months for her health. Hunviker says she is improved.
Belgrade Sept 19 ministers from most powers, except Husalu, are ordered to attend King Peter I’s coronation on Wednesday. Russia’s directive has sparked a sensational reaction among the powers.
Michael Sehall president of Keystone Foundry and Machine Company and Miss Nettle Garmatt were found dead in the woman’s apartments after turning on the gas. Both were well connected socially and left notes about the cruel world. In other news Senator Dolliver travels for speeches from Washington. Viscount Castel lo Herghes, a king’s intimate, was found murdered with jewels missing and his valet absent.
Taggart Hes and WH retain active direction of Democratic affairs. Parker will not stump but will address audiences at Esopus and New York. Illinois and Wisconsin politicians meet in Chicago to establish western HQ with Sullivan in charge.
W H Zehbrung, formerly in Pendleton, describes the Midget Tabulator a 50 cent substitute for a 20 dollar tabulator for typewriters. A copper bite with a scale of figures guides the index. it slips on and remains on the machine. Zehrung, a practical typewriter operator, claims strong practical knowledge and has sold 44 sets in one Portland business college.
The Co BK N has declared a new wheat rate from The Dalles and all points east to Memphis Tenn and common points, effective September 19. The rate is 60 cents per 100 pounds with 62 cents for wheat milled in transit at Denver. The extension covers movement to Memphis and northern points, expanding the current Midwest South route.
A Halifax blaze at Black Brothers hardware warehouse and nearby depots caused massive explosions after gunpowder and dynamite were dumped into the river on mayoral order. The fire destroyed several new warehouses and buildings at Black’s and Dickford & Black’s wharfs, with losses estimated around 3 million. Principal losers include Black Brothers & Co, Bryant & McDonald, and Thomas Forham & Co.
A Union Pacific passenger train was ditched near Junction City Kansas this afternoon injuring seven. A later telephone report says fifteen dead. The Flyer No 4 apparently broke into four portions and was about an hour late on its eastbound run.
C A Khea of Portland recently returned from Wallowa county with a band of horses bought near Lostine. He notes Wallowa farmers run ditches high along hillsides to tap Lake Wallowa 600 feet above town and water steep alfalfa patches. Water seeps to roots with no flooding, reflecting solid soil that resists erosion.
A Cairo correspondent of the London Daily Mail reports a severe locust outbreak in Egypt. The swarm, starting small, multiplies rapidly and covers miles in length. Authorities may resort to trenches and straw heaps burned to destroy the insects, a method used in 1890, as young locusts advance relentlessly.
