Hackensack on September 18 Peter Hernia was hanged for murder of butcher Wellington. Moments before the scaffold he spied his wife outside denied access. He bayed for violence, tore gas pipe from bathroom plumbing, brandished the pipe, then was subdued by a water stream from a fire hose and carried to the scaffold.
Police pursue a hit man hired from a Kingston livery stable after Mrs Lillian Kingston is found murdered in the canal. A detective force is assigned and the motive appears linked to affair with other men. The killer remains at large.
In Mahoney City at midnight, strikers dynamited the house of Richard Parfitt while he was at work in the colliery. His wife and three children slept inside but were not seriously harmed as the building was nearly ruined. Most strikers condemn the act. In Frankfort Ky Sept 19 a motion to dissolve the injunction in the McGovern Corbett fight case was heard before Chief Justice Duffy after a noon session.
Aeronaut Spencer conducted a secret trial of his flying machine in London. He circled St Pauls Cathedral and reached the Crystal Palace in 26 minutes covering seven miles. Observers saw intricate revolutions high in the air.

A head on crash between Northern Pacific freight trains near Easton last night killed fireman H. B. Shaffer and engineer A. J. Adame, both from Tacoma. Three mail clerks and an express messenger were injured. No. 6, traveling at 40 mph, collided with No. 4 near Covington, telescoping baggage and mail cars. The road was washed for 24 hours.
Confirmation of Salisbury's illness was received in London on Sept 18. Authorities say there is no cause for anxiety as Salisbury is suffering from severe chills and a slight attack of gout.
Seattle reports Hardy, the Unimak murderer, will be hanged today in Nome after a long legal battle. President Roosevelt did not intervene. Tacoma Washington September 10 Grain Inspector Armsmith reports Washington Idaho and Oregon wheat will be at least six million bushels short of earlier expectations. Dry districts show shrinkage and smut injures the crop. Washington may yield 27 to 29 million bushels versus 32 million last year. Idaho and Eastern Oregon show similar losses.
Lawrence Greig, a bookkeeper, faced the police court in London today on charges of forging checks totaling $50,000. He allegedly signed the checks with the name of Andrew Carnegie of the Steel Company. The report also notes Idaho’s Payette valley fruit crop is much larger this year.
New York police shift belief in Mrs. Pulitzer case after a Hoboken liveryman reports returning a weight strap from her rented by him. Investigators now think she was lured to a room, murdered for her jewelry, body kept in the room, then placed in a trunk and dumped in the canal near New York.

A Philadelphia and Reading freight train split near Sunbury Pennsylvania early this morning and the two sections collided. Injured are James Farley James Price Michael Duffey and John McCarthy all of Mount Carmel with Price and Duffey likely to die.
