Jerome Freed From Charges Apology Made

Jerome Travers Jerome was acquitted last night of gambling charges at Coaticook Quebec while awaiting immigration rulings on Harry K Thaw. The magistrate apologized for the humiliation and the court declared him honorably discharged. Jerome praised Canadian reception and planned to continue to New York after the brief appearance.

Man Arrested in New Jersey Murder Case

Peter Sternemann was arrested in Jamaica in connection with the murder of a young woman whose headless body was found at Cliffside New Jersey. He is held as a witness pending investigation after sending letters to police claiming the victim was his daughter. Detectives posing as New York newspaper men arrested him. His room showed a disrupted scene with 14 Bibles on a table, a coil of rope, and thin wire, with another coil of wire found nearby.

The Umatilla county fair is in progress all week at the pavilion between the O W R and N P depots. Afternoon admission is 25 cents, same for the first two evenings. the last four evenings 50 cents. Children pay 15 cents at all times.

Sept 9 Corona Cal. Eddie Waterman won the light car race in 1:27:20.2045. Jackson finished second in a Reo, William Rhodes drove a Studebaker. A crash in the first event fatally injured Mechanician Crawford and an unidentified girl. R. M. Taylor of San Diego, his wife, and a three-year-old child were reported painfully injured after an embankment plunge. Ten cars started the Merit race at 10 am. plans showed 200, 251, and 201 mile events with no spectators observed.
