Accompanied by the relief ship Joninule, Commander Peary is expected to arrive this afternoon. He plans to file to the New York World a detailed account of the discovery. The town is excited by his anticipated arrival as reports from Peary reach Washington and Sidney. A message from Peary to Roosevelt has been received and Peary aims to reach Sidney Thursday and New York about 36 hours after. Mrs Peary and two children plan to go to Sydney to meet him then proceed to Washington where his first duty is to report. The official notification of the discovery was received in a telegram from Secretary Bridgeman of the Yeary Arctic club quoting Peary on Indian Harbor.

Portland, Sept. 7. The Willamette River, which annually exacts a toll of human life, added three more to its grim tally since May. All three were bathers, including 24 year old Mike Ragonelli and two companions, who escaped. one drowned nearly within reach of friends.
Samuel McAllister aged 24 is missing after his clothes were found on the banks of Columbia slough. It is presumed he was drowned while swimming. Jesse C. Buiter aged 19, a deck hand on the river tow boat Frank BH. Jones, with fellow employes, tried to swim from the steamer to a tow raft. He was seized with cramps and sank. body not recovered.
King James, the even money favorite, won the Ocean handicap at one mile in 1:37 4-5, defeating Jack Atkin by three lengths with King's Daughter close behind in third. The event drew 15,000 spectators. Grandpa also won the Labor Day steeplechase by eight lengths.

Marquette Sept 7 The federal grand jury convened to investigate charges against President John Larson and Assistant Cashier Meadow of wrecking the First National Bank of Ironwood. The bank held about 600000 in deposits.
J M Conklin of Portland, owner of banks at Mt Angel and elsewhere, visits Madras to organize a new bank. He secures local directors M Putz J C Robinson and J T Robinson. Capital stock set at 15000 dollars. With the wheat country backing, the bank is expected to succeed.
The Independent Spirit notes in Oregon that roughly half the 1909 grain crop has changed hands with prices at 78 cents for flour and 88 for blue stem. Some farmers hope to delay sales till next year to seek a dollar per bushel, while others near Athena Adamae Helix and McCormmach report sales.
